
Lehigh sending 23 women to ECAC Championships at Princeton

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh women's track and field team will send 23 qualifying athletes to the ECAC Championships, held in Princeton, N.J. The two-day event begins Saturday with action concluding for the Mountain Hawks on Sunday afternoon. All qualifying athletes were able to use times from both the indoor and outdoor seasons to enter the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
Kicking off the competition for the Mountain Hawks is sophomore Brittany Curtin, who is competing in the hammer throw at 2 p.m. Saturday. Curtin set a personal record at last weekend's Patriot League Championships, finishing in third place with a 54.29m mark, beating the qualifying mark of 51.00m.
The 4x100m relay team of sophomore Morgan McConnell, freshman Madison Hackman, sophomore Brett DeWeese and freshman Camari Griffin will hit the track at 2:45 p.m. The 4x100m relay team's season-best time is 47.74, set at the Lehigh versus Lafayette Dual Meet in April.
In field action, pole vaulters sophomore Madisyn Hawkins and senior Katie Toman are slated to compete at 3 p.m. To qualify for ECACs, athletes had to tie or beat a 3.70m mark. Hawkins tied the mark at last weekend's Patriot League Championships with a second place finish, while Toman beat the mark with a 3.75m performance at February's Bucknell Tune Up.
Sophomore Brianna Wanbaugh will compete in the javelin throw at 3:45 p.m. Wanbaugh beat the qualifying mark of 41.00m last weekend at the Patriot League Championships, earning a 41.37m seventh-place finish.
Back on the track, senior Clare Severe will compete in the 1500m at 4 p.m. Severe set the school record in the 1500m earlier this season, finishing in 4:22.78 at the Bison Outdoor Classic in April.
Senior Stephanie Hayes is competing in the 3000m, qualifying for the ECACs with a personal-record 9:52.80 performance at the Penn Relays, beating the 10:00.24 qualifying standard.
The 3000m steeplechase action gets underway at 5:30 p.m., where four Mountain Hawks are slated to compete. Senior Stacie Nadel, junior Ashleigh Crawford, freshman Nicole Abbondandelo and sophomore Miranda Royds will all compete after beating the 10:55.24 qualifier. Nadel was named Patriot League Champion last weekend, winning the steeplechase event in 10:40.63.
Saturday's competition concludes at 7:40 p.m. as sophomore Susie Poore competes in the 10,000m. Poore earned a personal record in the event at last weekend's Patriot League Championships, finishing in 37:14.80.
Action picks up again on Sunday as senior Tyler Bannister and junior Jordan Otto are competing in the high jump at 12:30 p.m. Bannister finished first in the high jump portion of the heptathlon at the Patriot League Championships last weekend, earning a 1.71m mark, beating the 1.70m qualifier for this weekend's competition.
Also at 12:30 p.m. is the discus throw, which three Mountain Hawks are slated to compete in. Freshman Jena Reinheimer, freshman Teasha McKoy and Curtin all qualified for the event, besting the 42.50m qualifying mark. At the Patriot League Championships last weekend, Curtin finished at the top of the podium, with McKoy finishing just behind her in second and Reinheimer finishing in seventh place.
The final event of the competition for the Mountain Hawks is the 4x800m relay, with the team of Severe, junior Sophie Antonioli, junior Mary Casey and freshman Jade Sessions set to compete. The relay set a season-low time of 8:49.58 at the Patriot League Championships last weekend, close to 17 seconds faster than the qualifying time of 9:16.24.
