WORCESTER, Mass. — The Lehigh women's track and field team finished fifth at the 2019 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, which wrapped up Saturday at Holy Cross. Two Mountain Hawks earned individual titles on the second day of competition.

Senior Stacie Nadel and sophomore Brittany Curtin each earned a Patriot League title on Saturday. Nadel won her first-career championship in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing the event with a time of 10:40.63. Lehigh had four top-10 finishers in the steeple, with junior Ashleigh Crawford finishing third (10:42.73), sophomore Miranda Royds finishing sixth (10:53.31) and freshman Nicole Abbondandelo finishing seventh (10:54.06).

"Stacie Nadel, that's sort of the fan favorite winner, just because she's been all around that event, really ready to do it," Lehigh head coach Matt Utesch said. "We won it last year with Ashleigh, and she's a senior and captain who has worked hard all of her career and been a real culture person for our team. To have her win was just very heartwarming to see her be so successful."

Curtin won her third Patriot League title and second outdoor title in the discus, earning a mark of 45.89m. She won the same event at last year's championship meet. Freshman Teasha McKoy finished in second with a 45.31m mark and freshman Jena Reinheimer finished in seventh with a mark of 43.63m. Curtin, McKoy and Reinheimer all qualified for the ECAC Championships.

"Brittany is quite amazing," Utesch said. "I'm so happy with her hammer throw (Friday) and then to come back with the discus and win it again is outstanding. I couldn't be more proud of her and more happy for her. The real story in the discus is Teasha, that whole group scored us a bunch of points out of that event, which was great."

Senior Clare Severe finished third in the 1500m, earning a time of 4:36.92. Senior Stephanie Hayes and junior Sophie Antonioli both finished in the top 10, with Hayes finishing in ninth place (4:39.13) and Antonioli finishing in 10th (4:39.30).

"Clare is a superstar, she was sort of sick this morning but she's tough as nails," Utesch said. "She still got out there and did everything she could do. She's a rock on our team and I'm really proud of her."

In the 400m, freshman Madison Hackman finished seventh overall with a personal record time of 57.17. Hackman's time earned Lehigh two team points.

"Her and Morgan are really the future of the team," Utesch said. "Those two girls really are great character kids, they're really fast and have a lot more in the tank."

Senior Noreen Byrne finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.62. Junior Erin Racano finished 10th in 1:03.08. Byrne's time qualified her for the ECAC Championships next weekend.

"Noreen was a little injured, but I'm happy that she got in and scored," Utesch said. "She's provided great leadership for us over the past four years, she's a team captain and has been a super hard worker and really has set the tone for Morgan and Maddie. She's really led that event group and we'll miss her."

Senior Tyler Bannister and freshman Carly Carpino both continued the heptathlon competition, finishing eighth and ninth overall respectively. Bannister, who finished with a score of 4240, finished second in the javelin (33.20m). Carpino finished with a score of 4000 and finished fifth in the long jump (5.21m).

"I was really happy for Carly, she had a personal record in the heptathlon," Utsech said. "Tyler has always been a workhorse, she's always stepped up to do everything she could do. Her jump in the multi high jump would've easily won the open high jump. She's going to be very missed"

In the triple jump, junior Catherine Shippee finished in eighth place, earning a 11.43m mark.

"Cate struggled to get on the board early, but then made the final in a very controversial triple jump," Utesch said. "She kept her focus and came through, jumping very well."

Sophomore Briana Wanbaugh finished seventh in the javelin, with a mark of 41.37m. Freshmen Emily Dolan and Veronica Meyer finished 10th (35.21m) and 12th (33.17m) respectively.

"She led a couple of our freshman girls, and has provided good leadership for them."

Lehigh had three scorers in the high jump, led by junior Jordan Otto (1.65m). Bannister finished fifth (1.60m) and sophomore Noa Levy finished seventh (1.60m) on misses.

"I'm not happy with our overall finish, we had some good things and some bad things," Utesch said. "I like our position for the future. We're a young team this year, so I'm really optimistic about where we'll go from here. We had a bunch of people qualify for ECACs/IC4As and we start tomorrow with some new hope for those competitions."

The action continues next weekend for Lehigh as it travels to West Point, N.Y., for the West Point Twilight on Thursday. Qualifying athletes will also compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championship on Saturday and Sunday in Princeton. N.J.
