Lehigh closes home schedule with 7-0 shutout of Saint Joseph's

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its final home match of the season, Lehigh recognized its lone senior, Grace Lin, and then went on to blank Saint Joseph's 7-0 Thursday afternoon on the Ulrich Varsity Courts. The Mountain Hawks won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, but there were a couple of close battles.
Lehigh moves to 7-10 with one match remaining in the regular season.
Doubles play saw Lehigh claim the first point quickly with wins at the top two flights. Freshman Elizabeth Nowak and sophomore Casey Zhong teamed for a 6-0 win at No. 2 and junior Sibel Can and sophomore Paula Gonzalez paired up to win 6-2 at No. 1. The match at No. 3 went to a tiebreak but Lin and junior Leigh Friedman won the tiebreak over Katherine Devlin and Laura Gomez 7-4 to claim the 7-6 victory.
Lin opened up singles play with her second straight singles win, dropping just one set against Alex Kramer at No. 5. Nowak then extended her singles winning streak to four with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gomez at No. 3. The Mountain Hawks clinched their second straight win at the No. 2 flight as Gonzalez beat Isis Gill-Reid 6-1, 6-0.
Zhong and sophomore Catherine Meighan were straight-set winners at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively. Can lost the first set to Amanda Nava at the top flight but won the second and prevailed in a 10-point tiebreak to win the match.
Saint Joseph's is now 3-18 on the year.
Lehigh will close out the regular season with a visit to Lafayette on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match. The Patriot League Tournament begins Thursday at Bucknell.
