Lehigh wraps-up regular season with 18th straight win over Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team closed out the regular season with its 18th consecutive win over rival Lafayette as the Mountain Hawks blanked the Leopards 7-0 Tuesday on the Sullivan Tennis Courts. The Mountain Hawks captured the top two doubles flights and swept through all six singles matches in straight sets to finish the regular season at 8-10 overall and 3-4 in the league.
Doubles play begin with Lehigh's No. 2 team of sophomore Casey Zhong and freshman Elizabeth Nowak winning 6-1 over Katie Hill and Alexa Cooke. Lehigh's top team of junior Sibel Can and sophomore Paula Gonzalez clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Cecelia Lesnick and Samantha Snyder.
The only blemish on the day for Lehigh was a 6-3 setback at No. 3 doubles.
Lehigh continued to roll in singles play, as Nowak dropped just one game to Snyder in a win at No. 2 and Zhong lost just three games against Maureen McCormack at No. 3.
Sophomore Catherine Meighan clinched the rivalry win with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Meredith Block at No. 5.
Patriot League Player of the Week Grace Lin won 6-2, 6-1 over Grace Conrad.
Gonzalez moved up to the top flight to beat Lesnick in straight sets, while junior Leigh Friedman needed a tiebreak to win the first set against Hill at No. 6 before claiming the second set 6-0.
The Mountain Hawks will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament and will face No. 3 Army West Point in a quarterfinal match Friday at 1:30 from Bucknell's Varsity Tennis Courts in Lewisburg, Pa.
