LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Lehigh track and field teams rounded out this weekend's competition with the final day of the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell.
The women's team saw top-10 finishes in the 400m hurdles by two athletes. Junior Erin Racano finished seventh with a time of 1:03.77, which earned her a personal record in the event. Senior Noreen Byrne finished eighth with a time of 1:03.85.
"Erin (Racano) looked great in the 400m hurdles," head coach Matt Utesch said. "I'm super happy with how she did and that record has been a long time coming too."
Three Mountain Hawks earned top-10 finishes in the heptathlon. Sophomore Madison Harding, sophomore Noa Levy and freshman Carly Carpino went 3-4-5 in the event, earning scores of 4263, 3681 and 3653, respectively.
Senior Clare Severe finished sixth overall in the 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:22.78 which broke the school record of 4:28.32 she set earlier this season by more than five seconds.
On the men's side, senior Max Jordan finished sixth overall in the pole vault, earning a mark of 4.50m. His jump was .1m higher than his 4.40m showing at the Lehigh-Lafayette Dual Meet last weekend where he was named field athlete of the meet.
Junior Erik Metz finished 10th overall in the long jump with a mark of 6.56m, breaking his previous personal record of 6.50m. Freshman Vincent Polignano finished 11th in the high jump, earning a mark of 1.89m.
"Erik (Metz)'s personal record has been a long time coming, he's been working really hard and it's always great to see when that happens," Utesch said. "I'm proud of him for his performance this weekend."
Saturday at the Coach Pollard Invitational at Moravian, sophomore Brittany Curtin broke her own school record in the discus, earning a mark of 49.25m. Curtin's performance highlighted Lehigh's three meet weekend, which saw six personal records set for the women and two set for the men.
Brittany (Curtin) and Clare (Severe) both just continue to impress everybody and continue to break their own records which is very cool," Utesch said. "I don't think either one of them are tapped out, I think they've got quite a bit left so that's very exciting.
Also on Saturday, senior Stacie Nadel finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:44.10.
"It was a really good weekend," Utesch continued. "We had a mixed bag of weather but we got to perform on days where it was really nice, and that was great. We had loads of personal records and so we're definitely going in the right direction."
Utesch also had high praises for sophomore Brianna Wanbaugh, who had a strong performance in the javelin at the Coach Pollard Invitational.
"Brianna Wanbaugh had a great weekend at Moravian," Utesch said. "She's been throwing the javelin quite well and she's coming along and has had two great weekends in a row now so we're definitely going to see a personal record out of her very soon."
The Mountain Hawks are back in action next weekend with three meets — The Virginia Challenge hosted by the University of Virginia, the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College and the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. All three of next weekend's meets begin Friday and continue into Saturday.
