Lehigh opens three match home stand as Army visits Friday afternoon

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – On Friday, the Lehigh women's tennis team will return from a layoff of nearly two weeks to open a three-match home stand against Patriot League foe Army West Point at 2 p.m.
 
In their last time on the court, the Mountain Hawks beat league opponent, Colgate, 6-1 for their first Patriot League win of the season. Lehigh now has a 5-9 overall record and a 1-3 league record. The victory over the Raiders decisively snapped the Mountain Hawks five match losing streak. Lehigh won the doubles point 2-0 and then took five of six singles matches with sophomore Casey Zhong clinching the match at No. 6.
 
The defending Patriot League champions, Army is coming off 5-2 wins at Bryant and Rhode Island on April 6. Army is now 17-6 overall and 4-1 in the league with its only loss coming against Navy just two weeks ago. The Black Knights are tied for second in the league standings with Navy, behind No. 1 Boston University.
 
On Friday, Lehigh sophomore Paula Gonzalez, will look to extend her two match win streak, and to continue to cement herself as a force in the Patriot League. Last match she beat Colgate's Makenzie Deeter 6-3, 6-1 in the first flight of singles matches.
 
After facing Army, Lehigh will host another league member, Bucknell, at home on Tuesday April 16. Bucknell is currently fourth in the Patriot League with a record of 12-5 overall and 2-1 in league. The Bison are coming off of a win against Mount St. Mary's and before that a 6-1 loss to Navy. Before coming to face the Mountain Hawks, the Bison have matches against Loyola and Towson this weekend.
 
On April 18, Lehigh will close out its home stand against Saint Joseph's at 3:30. Senior Grace Lin will be recognized prior to her final home match on senior day. Saint Joseph's is 2-15 on the year and is coming off a 4-1 loss to Villanova.
 
Lehigh will close out the regular season at rival Lafayette on April 23 before shifting focus to the Patriot League Tournament Apr. 25-28 in Lewisburg, Pa. The Mountain Hawks enter the weekend seventh in the league standings but will have three more opportunities for league wins to move up prior to the start of tournament play.
