BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team is set to return home on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross at 12 p.m. on Senior Day. The game can be seen live on the Patriot League Network, as Lehigh's six seniors will be recognized prior to opening draw. Despite standing 0-5 in league play, the Mountain Hawks are far from eliminated from postseason contention. If they win their last four games beginning Saturday, they would give themselves a realistic opportunity to reach their sixth straight Patriot League Tournament.
Last time out, Lehigh and Colgate played neck-and-neck for most of the contest, but the Raiders pulled away late. The Mountain Hawks led 2-0, were tied 3-3 and trailing 6-4, but the Raiders scored 10 unanswered goals over the game's final 16:01. Sophomore Samantha Sagi played well in goal, tallying 14 saves – her seventh game this season in double figures.
Overall, the Mountain Hawks will look to snap a five-game losing streak. They have come against the Patriot League's elite, with those five teams currently occupying Nos. 1 through 5 in the standings. If Lehigh wins on Saturday and Bucknell also loses vs. Boston University, the Mountain Hawks would find themselves just one game behind the sixth and final Patriot League Tournament spot with three games still remaining.
Holy Cross is currently tied for sixth (with Bucknell), owning a 2-3 record (4-8 overall). The Crusaders have defeated Lafayette (11-10) and Bucknell (19-13), with losses against Colgate (13-10), Army West Point (19-13) and Navy (22-6) sandwiched in between. Four Holy Cross players own 20+ points, led by 26 from Jolie Creo (20 goals, six assists). Keely Connors has 25 points (22 goals, three assists) while Maggie Moriarty has 23 points (six goals, team-leading 17 assists). Connors leads the Crusaders in draw controls (70) while Haley Walker leads the way with 31 groundballs and 18 caused turnovers. A pair of goalkeepers have split time, with Sophie Ochs tallying a 12.05 GAA and 40.4 save percentage in 338:32 of action and Julianna Kubler recording a 13.68 GAA and 46.0 save percentage in 381:28.
Lehigh leads the all-time series vs. Holy Cross, 19-10, which includes five straight victories. Most recently, the Mountain Hawks picked up a thrilling 16-15 overtime win in the Patriot League Quarterfinals, with current senior Kellie Gough scoring the game-winning goal. Lehigh won the regular-season meeting 15-11, one year after winning 10-3. Holy Cross' last win came in 2014 by a 9-6 final.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks travel to rival Lafayette on Wednesday to face the Leopards. Gametime is set for 7 p.m.
