BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh women's track and field team is set to compete in three meets during the second weekend of outdoor competition.
The Mountain Hawks will travel to Richmond, Virginia, for the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond. The invitational meet is slated to begin on Friday, with competition continuing into Saturday.
Lehigh's first track event of the meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday with the 3000m steeplechase. Freshman Nicole Abbondandelo and freshman Martina Sell are both competing in the event for the first time in their careers.
The field events open Friday afternoon with the women's hammer throw beginning at the conclusion of the men's event at noon. Sophomore Brittany Curtin is competing in the hammer throw, as well as the shot put and discus. Last season, Curtin competed in the hammer throw, discus and shot put at the Patriot League Championships, earning first place in the discus (47.87m).
Junior Hannah Bonaguidi and freshman Jade Sessions will both be competing in the 800m on Saturday morning. Both Bonaguidi and Sessions set personal records last weekend at the Penn Challenge in the 3000m and 1500m respectively.
Sessions was also a part of the 4x400m relay team last weekend that earned an eighth place finish with a time of 4:14.00. Sessions is competing on the 4x400m relay team again this upcoming weekend. The 4x400m relay event is slated to begin at 4:30 on Saturday, making it the last women's event of the meet.
A group of Mountain Hawks will also travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State University, which also takes place Friday and Saturday.
Lehigh will send much of its distance corps to Raleigh as the Mountain Hawks have competitors in the 1500m, 3000m steeplechase and 5000m. Junior Ashleigh Crawford, who earned a Patriot League title last season in the steeplechase, is competing in the 3000m steeplechase along with senior Maura Henderson, senior Stacie Nadel and sophomore Miranda Royds.
In the third and final competition of the weekend, the Mountain Hawks will send athletes to the Lafayette 7-Way in Easton, Pa. The 7-Way is actually now an 8-way with Lehigh joining Lafayette, Colgate, Binghamton, Moravian, Muhlenberg and Stockton. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with track events set to begin at noon.
