BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off an impressive 19-4 win vs. Saint Francis (Pa.), the Lehigh women's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday when it hosts UMBC. Opening draw has been moved from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. due to winter weather expected overnight. Due to the time change, Saturday's game will not be on the Patriot League Network, but there will be live stats available.
The Mountain Hawks broke out for 19 goals last Saturday, most since a 20-11 win at Lafayette two seasons ago, while the 15-goal margin was Lehigh's largest since a 20-4 victory vs. the Leopards on Mar. 20, 2010.
Several Lehigh players filled up the stat sheet, led by five goals from senior Kellie Gough and six points (four goals, two assists) from junior Sondra Dickey. Sophomore Hannah Cermack posted a career-high five points (two goals, three assists) as she leads the Mountain Hawks in assists through three games with six. Her 10 points are second on the team, only behind Dickey's 11 (eight goals, three assists). Junior Autumn Ryan also scored three goals last Saturday for her third-career hat trick.
Defensively, the Mountain Hawks allowed just 12 shots for the game and only eight over the game's first 56:05. Lehigh played three goalkeepers on Saturday, with freshman Kerry McHugh seeing her first-career action down the stretch and stopping all four shots sent her way.
UMBC stands 2-2 on the season, beating American (9-8 in overtime) and VCU (11-8) before dropping games to Mount St. Mary's (9-8) and No. 2 Maryland (18-1). Payton Van Kirk leads the offense in assists (4) and points (9) while Lauren McDonald has tallied a team-leading six goals. McDonald also leads the way in draw controls (14) while goalkeeper Carly Tolino owns a team-leading nine groundballs. Tolino has played every minute in goal, posting a 10.57 goals against average and 54.3 save percentage.
Lehigh and UMBC will square off for the first time since 1988. Lehigh owns a 2-0 lead in the all-time series, winning in 1987 (11-3) and 1988 (18-6).
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will quickly return to action on Tuesday when they host Columbia at 3 p.m.
