elBETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team continued their winning ways, as it picked up a 6-1 victory over the Siena Saints at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center Sunday morning.
Lehigh moves to 2-2 on the season while Siena moves to 3-7.
"This win against a strong Siena team showed us that the things we are working on in practice are starting to pay off. Now it's up to us to build on this and be hungry for more," said head coach Wouter Hendrix after the match.
Lehigh was once again seeing success early, as they took care of business in double to go up 1-0 over the Saints. Sophomore Harry Wang and freshman Zack Elliott won 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles flight while sophomore Jacob Edelchik and junior Jack Martin-Dyer won 6-1 at the No. 3 doubles flight.
Winning all but one singles match, Lehigh would go up 2-0 after Wang won in two sets at the No. 1 singles flight, winning both sets 6-2.
Siena would get its lone win at the No. singles flight to make it a 2-1 match, but that would be as close as the Saints would come. Martin-Dyer made it 3-1 with a two-set victory at the No. 3 singles flight while Elliot would clinch the match with a three-set win at the No. 2 singles flight. Although dropping the first set 6-4, Elliot battled through the next two sets, winning 6-3 in the second and third set to give the Mountain Hawks the win at 4-1.
Freshman Gary Fishkin and senior Bryant Born both won 8-4 in the No.5 and No. 6 singles flights to give Lehigh its 6-1 final score.
The Mountain Hawks host the Red Foxes of Marist on February 23 for their next match at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
