Women's Track and Field Heads To Annapolis for Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The women's track and field team is traveling to Annapolis, Md., this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Indoor Championships. The two-day event hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy marks the end of the indoor season where the team has a month off from competition before the outdoor season begins on March 23.
Saturday's schedule opens with the Multi events at 9 a.m. including the pentathlon. The field events begin at noon with the pole vault and track events begin at 2 p.m. Saturday's competition closes at 5:40 p.m. for the men with the 4x800m relay.
Sunday's track events run from noon to 5 p.m., beginning with the heptathlon 60m hurdles and the mile run. The field events on Sunday begin at 10:30 a.m. with the high jump, concluding at noon with the triple jump.

Multis
In the pentathlon, two Mountain Hawks sit in the top-10 in the Patriot League. Senior Tyler Bannister is currently ranked ninth with a season-high of 3054 points earned at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet. Just behind her is freshman Hannah Figueroa, who is ranked 10th in the league with a score of 3013, a personal best. Last season, Bannister placed fifth in the league at the PLCs, scoring 3216 points.
Sprints/Mid-Distance
Junior Brooke Schaeffer is Lehigh's most promising sprinter of the competition, currently ranked second in the league in the 500m. Last season, Schaeffer earned a fourth place finish in the 500m with a time of 1:15.86, which she has already beat once this season with a time of 1:14.71 at the Lehigh vs. Lafayette meet Jan. 19.
Sophomore Morgan McConnell is in the league's top-ten in the 200m with a season-high time of 25.23.
In the hurdles, Sophomore Brett DeWeese is ranked seventh in the league with a time of 9.00 at the Navy Invitational, so this weekend's track will be a welcome sight for her as she looks to top her personal best time.
The 1,000m is headlined by senior Clare Severe, who is ranked second in the league after posting a time of 2:51.63 at the Navy Invitational on Jan. 26. Severe is also in the top five in the 800m, where she ran a 2:12.78 at the Bucknell Tune-Up last weekend. Freshman Jade Sessions is also ranked in the top ten in both the 800m and 1,000m.
Severe sits at the top of the league standings in the 1 mile. Last year, she took home a championship trophy in the distance medley relay, where she ran the mile leg.
Distance
In the 3K, junior Ashleigh Crawford and freshman Nicole Abbondandelo are both ranked in the league's top ten. Crawford, who is currently third in the league, ran a season-best 9:48.57 at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational at Boston University on Feb. 2.
The Mountain Hawks have four runners on the 5K leaderboard, as senior Stacie Nadel, sophomore Susan Poore, freshman Jamie Zamrin and senior Maura Henderson are all ranked within the top six spots in the league. Nadel's time of 17:26.49 at the Bruce Lehane meet was good for a personal record.
Field Events
Leading Lehigh in the throws is sophomore Brittany Curtin, who is ranked seventh in the league in the weight throw and eighth in the shot put. Curtin, who threw a personal-best 17.35m (56' 11.25") weight throw at the Lehigh Season Opener Dec. 1, finished in sixth place last season at the PLC.
In jumps, the Mountain Hawks will look to league-leaders junior Jordan Otto and sophomore Noa Levy in the high jump. Otto and Levy, who are tied for first place in the Patriot League, each finished with a 1.68m (5'6") jump at the Bucknell Tune-Up on Feb. 8.
Pole vaulters sophomore Madisyn Hawkins and senior Kaitlyn Toman also sit in the top-five of their event. Hawkins, tied for first with Holy Cross' Christa Moore and Navy's Madison Falvey, posted a 3.80m (12' 5.5") vault at the Navy Invitational on Jan. 26. She also currently holds Lehigh's indoor pole vault record, and shares the Patriot League record with Moore from Holy Cross. Toman and Moore set that record last year, with Moore finishing second at the meet.
