Mountain Hawks Feature Heavily in the Top 10 at Widener Indoor Classic

PHILADELPHIA- The Mountain Hawks went down to Philadelphia to face off in the Widener Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday. Lehigh also had three women travel to Boston, where they took part in Boston University's David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
Widener Indoor Classic
The throwers got the meet started on Friday, as shot put and weight throw were the only two events that day. The weight throw kicked off the meet, where sophomore Olivia Dubrow was Lehigh's top placing athlete. She threw a season's best 13.27 meters to place 19th. Sophomores Alyson Marmor and Maddie Hussey threw the same distance to lead the Mountain Hawks in the shot put. They both threw 11.51 meters, placing 11th.
Day two commenced with the 3000 meter run, where Lehigh earned two top 10 spots. Sophomore Kaitlyn Highduch finished second, running 10:12.20. Sophomore Elizabeth Ehrhardt placed eighth, lowering her personal record by eight seconds down to 10:25.29.
Lehigh ran well in the short sprints, earning a handful of top 10 finishes. First-year Maggie Scalzo started it off in the 60 meter hurdles, running 9.11 to finish ninth. In the 60 meter dash, the Mountain Hawks' duo of senior Gianna Mangili and Harper Glennon ran their way onto the podium. Mangili ran a season's best 7.67 second to finish as the runner up, and Glennon crossed the line in 7.74 to place third. The duo placed highly in the 200 as well, running indoor personal best times. Mangili ran a 25.35-second lap to place fifth, while Glennon placed seventh in 25.48. Lehigh's top runner in that event was Jade Sanders. The sophomore broke the 25-second mark for the first time in her career, finishing in 24.97 to place second overall. This race moved her up to second place on Lehigh all-time indoor performance list.
The long-sprints also brought success, with six top ten finishes across the quarter and half mile races. Two of these placements came in the 400, where junior Kasey White and sophomore Adelaide Videon-Perino ran their way into the top ten. White placed seventh running 58.34, and Videon-Perino's new personal record of 58.73 earned her 10th. Sophomore Lauren Bower led the four Mountain Hawk 800 meter runners to top finishes. She placed fifth, running 2:17.85. First-year Lily Schindler was not far behind in sixth, running a personal best time of 2:17.91. First-year Kayleigh Jamieson and sophomore Isabel Owens rounded out the top 10, with Jamieson in ninth (2:20.38) and Owens running an indoor personal best to place 10th (2:20.76).
The one mile run contained three top finishes for Lehigh, all due to new personal records. Senior Lucy Afanasewicz led the entire field to win the event, breaking the coveted five-minute mark for the first time and crossing the line in 4:55.29. First-year Zoe Louis finished just outside of that distinction, finishing fourth at 5:01.29. Senior Dakota Russell placed eighth, running 5:07.78.
The 4x400 meter relay team for the Mountain Hawks was the third fastest run in Lehigh's indoor track and field history. The squad consisting of Bower, Jamieson, Sanders, and Lanae Carrington ran 3:49.04, placing second at the meet.
Lehigh's success continued in the field, with five jumpers and vaulters placing within the top ten of their respective events. Senior Laura Reigle won the pole vault, clearing 3.80 meters in the least amount of attempts to claim victory. Sarah Goode placed 10th, with the senior surpassing 3.35 meters for the first time this season. Graduate student Casey Talamini-Kelemen placed fourth in the triple jump, leaping 11.31 meters. Melanie LaCorte cleared the 1.55-meter bar in the high jump, landing the senior in fifth. Senior Grace Nation placed sixth in the long jump, souring 5.20 meters.
David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Seniors Grace Kennedy, Abby Klebe, and Grace Aggen were the three members of the women's track and field team who traveled to Boston. Kennedy got the meet underway in the invitational 400 meter dash. She ran a personal best 55.34-second race to land her in 13th place. This time makes her the second fastest indoor 400 meter runner in Lehigh history. Klebe competed in the 800 meter run. She ran 2:07.29, placing 29th. Aggen threw the shot put, tossing 13.23 meters to place 11th.
The Mountain Hawks head back to Philadelphia next Friday, facing off in the Philly Metro, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Lehigh will also travel to Bucknell on Friday for the Bucknell Tune-Up.
