BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming down to the wire, the Lehigh men's tennis team fell short to the visiting Drexel Dragons 4-3 at the Lewis Tennis Center.

Lehigh moves to 0-2 to begin the young season while Drexel advances to 3-4 with the win.

"Our team competed well today against a strong Drexel squad. We've come a long way from last week as far as our fitness and energy level, and we will continue to make progress this week," said head coach Wouter Hendrix after the loss. "This was a big step in the right direction and we're excited to get back to work tomorrow. We have a great group of guys that are fun to go to battle with. Looking forward to next weekend's competition."

The Mountain Hawks started strong, winning doubles play 2-1, with the pairings of sophomore Harry Wang and freshman Zack Elliott won the No. 1 doubles match 7-6 while senior Christopher Auteri and junior Jack Martin-Dyer win the No. 3 doubles match 6-3 to put Lehigh up 1-0.

Tied 1-1 early in singles play, Wang defeated Alvaro Cruz Chammoro of Drexel in the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-1 advantage. Wang is now 2-0 at the No.1 singles position this year.

Lehigh would find itself down 2-3 as Auteri battled his way to a two-set victory in the No. 6 singles match over Juan Manuel Sanchez to tie the match 3-3 with Drexel.

Winning his first set 6-4, freshman Gary Fishkin would be unable to clinch the win for Lehigh, as he was defeated 7-5 in the second and third sets to Gustav Wogen in the No. 5 singles match.

The Mountain Hawks will turn their attention to next Saturday, as they host the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology at the Lewis Tennis Center for a 10 a.m. start.
