Mountain Hawks host Navy to open Patriot League play Thursday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The reason for the season is about to take place, as the Lehigh women's basketball team readies itself for Patriot League play, kicking off Thursday night against Navy with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
The game is also a part of Salute to Service Night at Stabler Arena, where admission is free for any service member or military member.
The Mountain Hawks closed out the non-league portion of the schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 80-71 win at Saint Peter's. The matchup ended a three-game road-trip for Lehigh and closes the book on a non-league slate that left Lehigh with an 8-3 overall record, tied for first place atop the Patriot League standings.
Senior guard Camryn Buhr continued her reign as the Mountain Hawks' leading scorer by tallying 20 points and six rebounds with four assists, a block and a steal in 29 minutes against the Peacocks. The outing marked the fourth time this season Buhr registered at least 20 points and is the ninth game of 11 this year where she scored in double-digits.
Cameryn Benz re-inserted herself into the starting lineup on Sunday after dealing with injury, getting back to where she left off by registering her third double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mariah Sexe tied her career-high 14 points in the win, as the Mountain Hawks scored 50 of their 81 points in the paint.
With the Mountain Hawks selected first in the Patriot League to begin this season, the road to the program's fourth title and the first in a decade begins Thursday against the Midshipmen. A season ago, Lehigh finished the year with a 21-10 overall record, a 12-6 Patriot League mark, which resulted in a third place finish and a semi-final round exit in the Tournament. A win over Navy would extend Lehigh's regular season Patriot League win streak to six straight.
The non-league schedule didn't go badly, but it wasn't a great start for Navy, finding itself positioned in the middle of the Patriot League standings at 5-6 overall.
The Midshipmen have fallen in three straight contests, most recently to Saint Joseph's on Monday night, preceded by defeats to George Mason and Fairfield.
Against Saint Joe's, Navy held the Hawks to just 49 points on the evening.
Morgan Taylor led the way with 11 points, seven rebounds and went 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. Montana Braxton added eight points and four rebounds, while Jennifer Coleman scored seven, with two rebounds.
Navy shot just 27.6 percent (16-for-58) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-for-19) from 3-point land and 30 percent (3-for-10) from the foul line.
Despite being 4-1 at home in non-league play, Navy is 1-5 away from Annapolis this season so far.
A matchup that dates all the way back to the 1981 season and a Patriot League matchup since the very beginning, Thursday evening will mark the 64th meeting all-time between Lehigh and Navy.
While the Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 33-30, the Mountain Hawks have taken the last three of four from Navy including both meetings during the 2018-19 season.
The last time Lehigh fell to Navy inside Stabler Arena was on Jan. 18, 2017 in a narrow 66-64 defeat.
Thursday's matchup will air on television on Service Electric 2 Sports, streamed live on the Patriot League Network and audio will be available through Lehighsports.com.
