Mountain Hawks release 2020 baseball schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Before you know it, baseball season will return in the Lehigh Valley, as Lehigh baseball head coach Sean Leary has announced the upcoming slate of games for the 2020 season. For Leary, this season will mark his silver anniversary as head coach, heading into his 25th year as the skipper of the program.
After finishing the 2019 season a year ago with a 21-28 overall record, the Mountain Hawks kick off the new campaign with a trip to Davidson for a three-game set Feb. 14-16. Lehigh will then take on Richmond on the road five days later for another trio of games Feb. 21-23.
Lehigh will take on an opponent from the ACC for the second consecutive season when play Pitt in Sanford, Fla. on Feb. 28 and 29. Defending NEC Champion Central Connecticut State will also make the trip down south, matching up with the Mountain Hawks on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1.
Baseball will be returning to J. David Walker Field earlier than usual this season, as Lehigh opens the home season against Coppin State on Wednesday, Mar. 4.
Spring Break for Lehigh begins on Mar. 6, as the Mountain Hawks take on North Carolina A&T for three games in Greensboro before heading to Fairleigh Dickinson for a single matchup on Mar. 10.
Lehigh and Mount St. Mary's meet up for four games with the first game on Mar. 13 taking place in Emmitsburg, before shifting the focus back home for three games Mar. 14 and 15. The Mountain Hawks then host Immaculata on Wednesday, Mar. 17 in a St. Patrick's Day matchup.
Patriot League play begins Mar. 21-22 weekend home against Navy and Bucknell, respectively for a pair of games each. Lehigh will then host Saint Peter's on Tuesday, Mar. 24 to conclude the nine-game homestand. The Mountain Hawks head back on the road the very next day for a mid-week tilt with Penn on Mar. 25 before heading to Easton to take on archrival Lafayette in a four-game side with doubleheaders on both Mar. 28 and 29.
Lehigh will once again participate in the Liberty Bell Classic with a first round game on Mar. 31 at a place to be determined. Then an Apr. 4-5 showdown with Army at Walker Field will come after that. The Mountain Hawks will then head to Jersey City to take on Saint Peter's in the second meeting of the home-and-home before going to Lewisburg to take on Bucknell for three more on the road Apr. 11 and 12.
Lehigh's annual one-game mid-week meeting with Lafayette will take place at Walker Field on Apr. 15 before hosting Holy Cross for three games Apr. 18 and 19. The Mountain Hawks will head to Coppin State on Apr. 21 in Baltimore and then turn around to play La Salle in Philadelphia the very next day on Apr. 22.
Seven of the Mountain Hawks' last nine games of the season will occur on the road with three games against the Midshipmen in Annapolis Apr. 25-26 and at West Point to take on the Black Knights in a May 2 doubleheader, concluding with a doubleheader at Holy Cross on May 3. In between all of that is a pair of non-league games at Walker Field against Maryland Eastern Shore on Apr. 29.
The Patriot League Tournament will begin on May 9 and conclude on May 16.
In total, Lehigh is scheduled to play 54 games in 2020, with non-league opponents from the A10, ACC, Atlantic East, Ivy League, MAAC, MEAC and NEC conferences. Of all the non-league opponents the Mountain Hawks will face this upcoming season, one is a defending conference champion that made an NCAA Regional in 2019 (Central Connecticut State, NEC).
The non-league slate in prepared in order to prepare the Mountain Hawks the best it can for Patriot League play, with a chance to secure a tournament berth for Lehigh for the first time since the 2016 season.
Lehigh returns First Team All-Patriot League selection Tony Gallo, and a majority of the lineup from last season. Gone are All-League selections Ryan Malloy and Jeff Shanfeldt, as are pitchers Levi Stoudt and Jason Reynolds, who were drafted and signed by major league clubs last season.
