BETHLEHEM, Pa – Fresh off a dominating opener, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team will be on the road this weekend. First, the Mountain Hawks will compete at West Chester on Friday in a tri-meet with Bloomsburg University as well, while closing the weekend at Rider on Saturday.

Last time out, Lehigh began its season with a bang, defeating Boston University, 185-108.

Megan Fennell opened the season for Lehigh in the diving events. The junior sky-rocketed out of the gate by breaking two team records in the 1 and 3-meter dive. In the 1-meter dive, Fennell tallied a score of 277.05, while scoring a 281.47 in the 3-meter dive. Fennell's performance against Boston earned her being named Female Diver of the Week in the Patriot League.

"Every time I compete, I strive to be better every single time," said Fennell. "Christina Sather, our diving coach constantly preaches positivity. I decided to just have fun with it and that's usually when I do my best. The Patriot League has some great divers, but I use tough competition as my motivation to improve."

Lehigh's strong core didn't disappoint at all on Saturday. Payton Miles proved why she is one of the best swimmers in the Patriot League as she won three events. In the 50 freestyle, Miles scored a time of 23.94, while also winning the 100 free at 51.88. With fast times and winning three events, Miles earned her first of many to come Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week.

"As a whole, our team looked stronger and felt stronger coming in," Miles stated. "We worked very hard in the offseason and Saturday showed with our explosiveness."

In the 200 medley relay, Miles, Anna Francisco, Anna Thomas and Sarah Hardy blew away the competition, taking first with a time of 1:47.02.

In the 200 freestyle, Ann Foley won with a time of 1:52.38, while after winning the 200 medley relay, Lehigh's Francisco won the 100 backstroke with an even time of 58.00.

Lehigh also got solid contributions from the freshmen as well. Hardy received honorable mention from the Patriot League after winning three events and breaking a pool record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.53. Danielle Prekop won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:34.65.

West Chester comes into competition with a 2-0 mark, while Bloomsburg has not yet competed in the 2019-20 season. For Saturday's meet, Rider enters play at an 0-1 mark. Last week, the Broncos took third at the Rutgers Invitational.

"For this weekend, I think using the confidence that we built up from last week will help. We're going into this weekend with confidence and energy. We have strong swimmers and we're coming full force." concluded Miles.

After West Chester and Rider this weekend, the Mountain Hawks will return to Jacobs Pool next Saturday as they will welcome in Loyola Maryland.
