Lehigh can’t overcome slow start in loss at Princeton

"We got off to a slow start and looked a little bit sluggish tonight," said Lehigh head coach Dean Koski. "We didn't bring the kind of energy we brought in our other games. When you go down two goals in the first half against a good team, you're really going to fight to get back into it. I thought we did a reasonable job in the second half to play better."
The Tigers began the evening with the game's first eight shots. It didn't take long for Marshall to make his first-career save, coming in the game's first minute. In the 13th minute, Blaise Milanek helped save a goal as a shot off a corner hit the cross bar and looked to be going in, but the junior was there to head the ball out of harm's way.

Princeton got on the board in the 17th minute. From the left corner of the box, Frankie DeRosa found the right corner of the goal.
Junior Trevor Koski recorded the Mountain Hawks' first shot (which was on goal) in the 20th minute. On the other end, put a second one home at the 40:22 mark off a free kick with a perfectly-placed shot into the top right corner.
Lehigh came ever-so close to getting right back into the game just 1:11 later. Senior Tommy Dokho was fouled in the box, creating a penalty kick, but sophomore Michael Tahiru's shot was saved by Princeton goalkeeper Jack Roberts to keep the score at 2-0.

The Mountain Hawks tallied the first two second-half shots, including a shot on goal from Tahiru in the 65th minute, but Roberts made the save. Each side had opportunities as the half progressed, but it was the Tigers who added a late insurance goal. After a shot was blocked in the 83rd minute, Daniel Diaz Bonilla buried the loose ball to account for the 3-0 final.
"We had a lot of good performances from guys off the bench," said Koski. "This is a game for us to look at other players as well, and I was pleased with some of the guys' performances. I thought the energy in the second half was much better, but you've got to play two halves."
Princeton finished with an 18-8 edge in shots, including 8-4 in shots on goal, while the Tigers held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Marshall finished with four saves.
"Ian did great," said Koski. "The goals scored against him, you can't fault him. They were all good goals. He made some good saves for us. He was great, and I'm really glad he got a game in. He's been a great backup to Will and he's been a great teammate. I'm really proud of him."
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday at Navy. Opening kickoff is set for 8 p.m. in a battle for first place. Lehigh and Navy enter the weekend with identical 4-0-1 Patriot League records and 13 points apiece.
"We're both going to go fight for three points in any way we can," said Koski. "They've had a great year and a great run and they're the team to beat. I see us going in there as underdogs and we have to make sure we take the fight to them."
