BETHLEHEM, Pa. — With a road record of 4-1-0, the Mountain Hawks continue their Patriot League schedule with an important matchup with Boston University on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against the Terriers.
Lehigh has struggled to take down opponents at home this season, but the team doesn't seem to be nearly as affected by pressure on the opposing team's field.
The Mountain Hawks started the 2018 season with an 0-2 record and since then, they have gone 4-2-1. In the past two matches, Lehigh has finally found the key to offensive success. The Mountain Hawks scored three goals on the road against Army last Saturday, thanks to two strikes from Patriot League Rookie of the Week Josh Luchini. Lehigh then scored twice against Cornell on Tuesday, a goal from Luchini and a goal from senior Mark Forrest, before falling to the Big Red, 3-2 in overtime.
Junior goalkeeper Will Smith came into Tuesday's contest with three straight shutouts, and allowed three goals against Cornell for the first time this season. With a 0.96 goals allowed average and five shutouts, the Devon, Pa. native has been one of the most dominant goalkeepers in Division I this season.
As Lehigh heads to Boston for its second Patriot League matchup of the season, the Mountain Hawks will rely heavily on an offensive attack that has average 2.5 goals per game and a shots on goal percentage of .625 (15-of-24) in their last two games. Lehigh's defense will have to be on its toes for a BU offense that has scored six goals in its last five games.
The Terriers head into Saturday's contest with a 2-5-2 record, but are 1-0 in Patriot League play after defeating American last weekend, 2-1.
Offensively, BU is led by Matt McDonnell, who leads the Patriot League in goals scored with six, including 12 points which is second in the league. The Terriers' leading assist-getter is Toti Knutsson, who is tied for second in the Patriot League with three. Boston University is allowing 1.53 goals per game this season, the second highest average in the league this season.
In the teams' short head-to-head history, BU leads the all-time series against Lehigh, 4-2. The Terriers shut out the Mountain Hawks, 2-0 on Sept. 30 of last season.
Saturday afternoon's matchup between the two programs will be streamed live on the Patriot League network.
