PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second year in a row, Lehigh led the Patriot League with a program-record 20 student-athletes named to the 2018 Patriot Baseball Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and participate in one of the Patriot League's winter or spring championship sports.
Â
The 20 honorees on this year's Honor Roll broke the program's previous record number of 18 set last year. Lehigh has steadily increased its number of honorees over the last six seasons and achieved its highest team GPA (3.26) under head coach Sean Leary in the 2018 spring semester.
Â
The Mountain Hawks also led the Patriot League for the second year in a row with the most student-athletes to achieve a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester. No other team had more than two 4.0 student-athletes on this year's Honor Roll. The Lehigh student-athletes who achieved perfection in the classroom this past spring semester include juniors Ethan Frohman and Ryan Malloy, sophomore Mike Maguire and freshman Peter Woltersdorf. Frohman, Maguire and Woltersdorf each posted a 4.0 GPA in both the fall and spring semesters in the 2017-18 academic year.
Â
In addition to the foursome who achieved a 4.0, five other Mountain Hawks (Eric Cichocki, Adam Hilal, Chris Kersey, Anthony Morrone and Jeff Shanfeldt) posted a GPA of 3.6 or better to qualify themselves for the Lehigh Spring Dean's List.
Â
Kersey, a 2018 Academic All-Patriot League selection, capped off his career with the Brown and White as four-time Honor Roll member. He is just the ninth student-athlete in program history to earn a spot on the Honor Roll all four years.
Â
Lafayette tied Lehigh for the League lead with 20 student-athletes on the Honor Roll this season, while Bucknell came in second with 19 honorees. Holy Cross finished third with 17 honorees, while Patriot League champion Army West Point had 10 student-athletes earn a spot on the list and regular-season co-champion Navy had an additional seven representatives. The 93-member academic honor roll improves upon the 2017 list by 21 student-athletes.
