BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks begin their final week of regular season play with a trip to Saint Peter's on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
Lehigh (18-26) wrapped up its final home stand last week with a record of 3-3 with wins over Coppin State, Navy and Bucknell. Freshman Quinn McKenna paced the team in hits, runs, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage as he earned his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor. The freshman outfielder recorded the game-winning hit and RBI in Lehigh's 1-0 victory Patriot League leading Navy last Saturday.
The Peacocks (0-33) will travel to Seton Hall on Tuesday before hosting the Mountain Hawks on Wednesday. Saint Peter's enters Tuesday's on a 72-game losing streak, which includes three losses to Lehigh during that stretch. The Peacocks fell to the Mountain Hawks, 14-0, in the previous meeting this season as they fell victim to the fifth no-hitter in Lehigh baseball history.
Peter Woltersdorf, who earned the win and combined to no-hit SPU last time, is slated to make his second-straight start against the Peacocks. The freshman tossed 4.2 perfect innings to start the game as he finished with a season-high six strikeouts and two hit batters in 6.0 innings of work.
In addition to the outstanding pitching last time against Saint Peter's, Lehigh also compiled one of its best offensive performances of the season. The Mountain Hawks combined for their most hits (17) and most triples (4) in a game this season, while tying their season-high for doubles (5) in a game.
Chris Kersey led the way offensively with a career-high five hits and a career-high three RBI in a 5-for-5 performance, while he finished a home run shy of the cycle. Matt Hand also had a landmark day as he finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, while setting career-highs with two runs scored and three RBI.
Nick Ciocco leads SPU with 31 hits on the season in 33 games played. He is hitting .258 on the season with a .326 on-base percentage and enters Tuesday tilt at Seton Hall on four-game hit streak.
Following Wednesday's game, Lehigh will hit the road for a four-game Patrito League road trip, starting with a doubleheader at Army on Saturday and finishing with a doubleheader at Holy Cross on Sunday.
