BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a five-game winning streak, the third-seeded Lehigh women's lacrosse team is set to host the Patriot League Quarterfinals when it hosts sixth-seeded Holy Cross on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 13-9 win at American Saturday afternoon to improve to 12-5 on the season, 7-2 in Patriot League play. Lehigh's seven league victories mark a school record.
Â
Tuesday marks the third straight season Lehigh will host a Patriot League Quarterfinal game, also marking the Mountain Hawks' fifth consecutive Patriot League Tournament appearance (tied for the longest streak in program history). Despite missing three starters due to season-ending injury, Lehigh has put forth an impressive season, winning its final sixth regular season games and 10 of its last 12 games. The only losses came against the top two teams in the league, falling to then No. 10 Loyola and No. 13 Navy. The six-game winning streak marks Lehigh's longest since winning seven straight in 2016.
Â
The Mountain Hawks have outscored their opponents 81-45 over the last six games, winning each game by four goals or more. Lehigh is now 37-16 over the last three seasons, winning 12 or more games each year. The Mountain Hawks won their home Patriot League Quarterfinal games in each of the last two seasons. In 2016, they were the No. 4 seed and beat fifth-seeded Colgate, 13-6 while in 2017, the third-seeded Mountain Hawks beat No. 6 seed Bucknell, 15-5. A win on Tuesday would give head coach Jill Redfern 100-career wins at Lehigh. Earlier this season at Columbia, Redfern tallied her 100th-career victory as a collegiate coach (which includes her one season at Lafayette).
Â
Most recently, Lehigh used a late surge to beat American in its regular-season finale Saturday. The Eagles went up 5-1 in the first half, but the Mountain Hawks scored six of the next seven goals to take a 7-6 lead. American answered by going up 9-8, but Lehigh ended the game on a 5-0 run to pull away. Junior Kellie Gough tied the score at nine at the 11:27 mark, then sophomore Autumn Ryan scored the second of her three goals at 10:10 to give Lehigh a 10-9 lead. Ryan scored again just 1:34 later while freshman Julianne Puckette and senior Haley Wentzel rounded out the scoring.
Â
Sophomore Sondra Dickey scored Lehigh's first three goals on Saturday and finished with four goals, an assist, two groundballs and three draw controls. Senior Kayleen Kelly corralled six draw controls to reach 160 in her career, breaking the previous record of 159 held by Leigh Ann Torcivia '12. Kelly is now Lehigh's record holder for draw controls in a game (10), season (currently 77) and career (currently 160). Dickey is up to 70 draw controls this season 80 in her young career, quickly moving closer to the top five in Lehigh history. Sara MacIntyre is currently fifth with 111. Meanwhile, Dickey's five points at American give her 96 in her career.
Â
Lehigh and Holy Cross will meet in the postseason for the first time since the 2010 Patriot League Semifinals, a 9-8 Mountain Hawks' victory. The Crusaders finished the regular season 6-11 overall, 4-5 in league play. If Lehigh wins on Tuesday, it would face second-seeded Navy in the semifinals for a second straight year. If Holy Cross wins, the Crusaders would play top seed Loyola.
Â
