BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh will close out its regular season home slate with four Patriot League games this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will host Navy in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. and square off against Bucknell in a Sunday doubleheader also starting at 12 p.m. All four games will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network. Prior to Saturday's doubleheader, Lehigh will honor the members of the senior class with a special pregame ceremony.
The Mountain Hawks (16-24, 5-12 PL) enter the weekend in fifth place in the Patriot League standings, one spot out of the final postseason position. With eight league games remaining, Lehigh is still in contention to qualify for the postseason, trailing Holy Cross by four wins and Bucknell by six. The Mountain Hawks still have two games remaining against both teams.
Navy (31-11, 15-6 PL) is the first team to secure a Patriot League postseason berth. The Midshipmen swept archrival Army West Point in a three-game set last weekend to clinch the season series. Navy enters the weekend on a five-game win streak, last suffering defeat in a 7-4 extra-inning loss to Lehigh on April 14.
Bucknell (14-23, 11-9) will travel to Lafayette on Saturday prior to heading across the valley to face Lehigh on Sunday. The Bison enter the weekend coming off a 4-1 victory over Lehigh last Sunday in Lewisburg, Pa.
Saturday's doubleheader will feature the Patriot League's top two hitters in Navy's Zach Biggers (.355) and Lehigh's Chris Kersey (.354). In addition to leading the league in batting average, Biggers ranks third in slugging percentage (.486), first in hits (59) and first in doubles (14). Kersey is fourth in slugging percentage (.486), fourth in on-base percentage (.444), fourth in runs (34), third in hits (51) and second in doubles (13).
Navy took two out of three games from Lehigh in the previous meeting this season, including a 2-1 walk-off win in game one. Noah Song and Levi Stoudt squared off in a pitching duel in game one as the two aces combined for 11 hits and 12 strikeouts in a seven-inning game that lasted one hour and 41 minutes.
Lehigh evened up the series by wining game two, 7-4, after scoring three runs in the top of the 10th inning. The Mids pulled away late in the rubber match of the three game and held on to win, 7-1.
The Bison opened their three-game set against Lehigh last weekend with a complete game no-hit performance by ace Connor Van Hoose. The senior righty needed just 76 pitches to complete the seven-inning no-hitter as he compiled eight strikeouts with two walks to lead Bucknell to a 3-0 victory.
Lehigh scrapped back for a 6-3 victory in game two behind a strong start from Jason Reynolds a four-RBI day out of Quinn McKenna. The Bison edged out Lehigh in game three, 4-1, as the Bison bullpen held the Mountain Hawks to just one hit in the final 5.1 innings.
Lehigh has a chance to win both season series against Navy and Bucknell this weekend and gain much-needed ground in the Patriot League standings in the process.
