BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Riding four straight wins, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team remains home on Sunday to host Bucknell on Senior Day. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. with the Mountain Hawks' senior class set to be recognized before the game. Most recently, Lehigh picked up a 12-6 win over rival Lafayette Wednesday night, scoring six straight goals to turn a 1-0 deficit into a 6-1 lead as the Mountain Hawks wouldn't look back. Lehigh officially clinched its fifth straight Patriot League Tournament berth and with one more win, would clinch a third straight top-four seed (and with it, a home game in the Patriot League Quarterfinals).
Â
The Mountain Hawks' five straight league tournament berths tie a school record (originally set from 2007-11). Overall, Lehigh has qualified for eight Patriot League Tournaments in Jill Redfern's ten seasons as head coach. Since standing 2-3 overall, the Mountain Hawks have won eight of their last 10 games, with the only losses coming to No. 10 Loyola and No. 13 Navy. Lehigh is 10-1 this season against unranked opponents.
Â
Senior Haley Wentzel sparked the offense on Wednesday, going on a personal 4-0 run to turn a 7-3 Lehigh lead into an 11-3 advantage. Wentzel finished with a career-high tying five goals while freshman Julianne Puckette dished a career-high four assists. Junior Olivia Kelly tied a career-high four points behind three goals (her second-career hat trick) and one assist. Freshman Samantha Sagi helped anchor Lehigh's defense, making 14 saves, including stopping 11-of-14 second-half shots sent her way. Senior Alexis King caused a turnover while also picking up her first-career point, an assist.
Â
Bucknell stands 3-11 on the season, 1-6 in Patriot League play. The Bison's lone wins have come against Robert Morris, American and Ohio State. Most recently, Bucknell hung tough early on vs. Loyola, standing tied at four with less than 13 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Greyhounds took over from there, going on to win, 18-6. Eve Calabria leads the Bucknell offense in goals (17), assists (13) and points (30) while Morgan Steinhacker has 16 goals as one of eight Bison owning between 10 and 16 points. Steinhacker leads Bucknell in draw controls (42) while adding 18 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. Both Katherine Doyle and Jessie Britton lead the team in caused turnovers (16) while goalkeeper Jamie DeWitt leads the Bison with 41 groundballs.
