Lehigh Travels to Navy for Three-Game League Set

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks resumes Patriot League play this weekend with a trip to Navy for a three-game set. Lehigh will face the Mids in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. before closing out the weekend with a single game starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh (12-19, 2-8 PL) is coming off a pair of midweek games, including a 7-1 victory over Lafayette and 15-7 loss to Delaware in the Liberty Bell Classic Semifinals. The Mountain Hawk pitching staff combined for a one-hitter at Lafayette on Tuesday, while the offense opened up a 5-0 lead while scoring in four of the first five frames. Lehigh fell into an early hole against Delaware on Wednesday as the Blue Hens rushed out a 6-0 lead after just two innings and took a commanding 11-1 advantage after five.

Chris Kersey continues to pace the LU offense with a .339 batting average on the season, to go along with a team-leading .419 on-base percentage and a team-high .482 slugging percentage. The senior second baseman is hitting .500 (4-for-8) on the week with two doubles and three runs scored.

Jeff Shanfeldt has been swinging a hot bat as of late. He enters the weekend on a five-game hit streak during which he his hitting .529 (9-for-17). So far this week, the junior catcher is hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a pair of runs scored.

Ryan Bonshak paces Lehigh with a .367 (11-for-30) batting average and a .432 on-base percentage in league play. The senior outfielder has a hit in eight of the team's 10 league games is currently riding four-game hit streak in league play. Bonshak has also been hot lately as he has recorded a hit in nine of the last 11 games overall.

The trio of Levi Stoudt, Peter Moore and Jason Reynolds will look to lead the rotation again this weekend. Stoudt paces the team with 40 strikeouts and is five away from tying his total from last season. Reynolds ranks second with 39 strikeouts on the season and Moore ranks third with 30.

Ethan Frohman has been strong out of the bullpen once again this season and owns a 1.86 ERA in Patriot League games and has held league opponents to a .125 batting average in six appearances. The junior reliever is coming off a 3.1 inning no-hit save on Tuesday at Lafayette as he racked up his league-leading fourth save of the season.

Navy (25-10, 9-5 PL) is on a two-game skid after suffering a walk-off loss (3-2) in the final game of a three-game set against Holy Cross last weekend, followed by 3-2 loss at home to Georgetown on Wednesday. The Mids have compiled the most wins (9) in Patriot League play so far this season, but rank second in winning percentage (.643) behind Army (.800).

Navy paces the Patriot League in team batting average (.290), team ERA (3.21) and team fielding percentage (.978). Zach Biggers leads the league with a .360 batting average, while Logan Knowles paces the league with 37 runs scored and Jacob Williamson is the league leader with 35 RBI.

Two-time reigning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week Noah Song leads the Navy starting rotation with an overall record of 5-2 on the season. The junior right-hander owns a 1.85 ERA and a 1.78 opponent batting average through 48.2 innings pitched this season as he paces the league with 75 strikeouts. Song enters the weekend having tossed 19.0 consecutive scoreless innings coming off back-to-back complete game shutouts against Lafayette and Holy Cross. He has three complete games in his last three starts as he has allowed just one run on six hits with a total of 34 strikeouts.
