BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding two straight victories and its best start since 2014, the Lehigh men's lacrosse team will hit the road on Saturday for a 12 p.m. opening faceoff at No. 12 Army West Point. The Mountain Hawks stand 4-1 overall, including 2-0 in the Patriot League following last Saturday's 10-7 win over Colgate. Lehigh scored the game's final four goals to stay undefeated in league play, and at home so far in 2018.

This Saturday's matchup features two-of-four teams in the Patriot League who are undefeated in league play so far. Like Lehigh, Army is also 4-1 on the season while the Black Knights are 1-0 in league play following a 13-4 win at Lafayette. Their only loss has come to No. 14/16 Syracuse, 11-10 in overtime.

Lehigh is coming off an exciting win over the Raiders which saw the Mountain Hawks score the game's first two goals and final four. Trailing 7-6 late in the third quarter, Lehigh outscored Colgate 4-0 the rest of the way. Senior John Mehok had a hand in three of those scores (two goals, one assist), finishing the game with career highs in goals (4) and points (5). Equally as impressive was Lehigh's defense, which held the nation's No. 3 scoring offense entering the day to fewer shots on goal (13) than it was averaging goals entering the day (15.75). The Mountain Hawks held the Raiders scoreless for the game's final 19:48 along with the game's first 14:45 and later for a stretch of 12:11, bridging the second and third quarters.

Junior Craig Chick helped lead the defense with three groundballs and three caused turnovers, reaching 90-career caused turnovers. He is just seven from tying and eight from breaking Tripp Telesco's school record. Just five games into his junior season, Chick's 90 caused turnovers is already tied for 21st in NCAA history while he's quickly approaching the Patriot League record of 106 held by Colgate's Bobby Lawrence. Meanwhile, junior Eddie Bouhall recorded four groundballs and a caused turnover while freshman Teddy Leggett tied a career-high four groundballs. Sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder Christian McHugh was strong, tying a career-high two groundballs while causing a key turnover. Freshman goaltender James Spence was strong in stopping three-of-four shots in the first quarter and three-of-five in the second half to finish with six stops. Sophomore Conor Gaffney won just one of his first five faceoffs, but responded to win 10 of his final 15 to finish 11-of-20 with four groundballs.

Along with Mehok's five points, four different juniors had three points. Andrew Pettit, Tristan Rai and Mickey Fizpatrick all had two goals and one assist. The three points tied a career high for Fitzpatrick. One week after scoring six goals, Lucas Spence dished three assists. Senior Ian Strain also tallied an assist. Every Lehigh goal or assist on Saturday was recorded by the Mountain Hawks' six starting attackmen/midfielders. The Mountain Hawks improved to 3-0 at home for just the second time in the last seven years.

On Saturday, Lehigh will be looking for its first 3-0 start in Patriot League play since 2013 when it finished 6-0, on the way to its second straight league title. The Mountain Hawks are looking to snap a three-game losing streak vs. Army, last beating the Black Knights in the 2014 Patriot League Semifinals behind a game-winning goal by Reid Weber with just 3.7 seconds remaining.

Army West Point is 4-1 on the season with three of its victories coming by nine goals or more. The Black Knights opened the year with an impressive 18-6 win over UMass while also defeating NJIT (14-5) and Lafayette (13-4). Army's biggest win came over No. 10/11 Rutgers, 9-7 while its loss came at No. 14/16 Syracuse, 11-10 in three overtimes. Army led 7-2 early in the third quarter, but the Orange made a furious comeback. The Black Knights lost leading scorer Cole Johnson to graduation from last season's 12-4 team, but are still averaging 12.80 goals per game so far in 2018. A trio of Army players lead the way in Conor Glancy (16 points: 10 goals, six assists), David Symmes (15 points: 10 goals, five assists) and Nate Jones (14 points: 11 goals, three assists). Johnny Surdick owns a team-leading seven caused turnovers while Jon LaMonica leads the way with 27 groundballs. John Ragno has taken the majority of faceoffs this season, winning 65.3 percent (47-of-72) with 16 groundballs. A.J. Barretto has started all five games in goal, tallying a 6.44 goals against average and 53.2 save percentage.

Lehigh and Army West Point have gone back-and-forth over the last few years with the Black Knights having the edge as of late with four straight victories. The Mountain Hawks enjoyed a strong stretch from 2012-14 when they won three in a row and four-of-five, but the Black Knights' recent success has them leading the all-time series, 25-7. The two teams have squared off in three of the last six Patriot League Tournaments, with Lehigh winning in the semifinals in 2012 and 2014 and Army winning in the quarterfinals in 2016. Six of Lehigh's seven all-time wins against the Black Knights have come in the last 15 meetings. Army won the first-ever meeting in 1922 by a 4-1 final before the sides reconvened in 1990, a 15-11 Army victory. Lehigh's first win was in 1999, 13-9.

The Mountain Hawks return home this coming Wednesday (Mar. 14) for a big home contest against No. 13/14 Rutgers. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. on the Patriot League Network.
