BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off an impressive Patriot League opening victory at Boston University, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team returns home on Saturday to host Loyola at 12 p.m. Saturday features a Lehigh Lacrosse doubleheader; the Lehigh men's team hosts Navy at 3 p.m. Both games will be televised live in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric 2 Sports and can also be seen online through the Patriot League Network.
Â
Most recently, the Mountain Hawks jumped out to an 11-1 halftime lead in Boston, on the way to defeating the Terriers 15-8, the largest-ever defeat by Boston University in a Patriot League (regular season) game. The win marked Lehigh's fourth in a row, all coming away from Lehigh's campus. The Mountain Hawks will return to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday for the first time since Feb. 27 against Princeton.
Â
Two Mountain Hawks garnered Patriot League weekly awards following last Saturday's win. Sophomore Sondra Dickey was named Midfielder of the Week for the third time this season after tallying a career-high seven points (three goals, career-high four assists). Dickey has seven hat tricks in nine games this season. She also tied a team-high five draw controls to reach 41 on the season, already just six from tying Carli Sukonik's school single-season record. Senior Alexis King was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, recording five groundballs and two caused turnovers as the Lehigh defense allowed just one first-half goal, the Terriers' fewest goals in a half in more than a year (since Mar. 8, 2017 at USC). The eight goals allowed were Boston University's fewest vs. a Patriot League team since the 2016 league semifinals against Navy.
Â
Offensively, Lehigh impressed as well, seeing nine different Mountain Hawks score a goal, including five multi-goal scorers. The Mountain Hawks have featured a balanced offense this season as seven different players have 10 or more points, led by 37 (16 goals, 21 assists) from junior Courtney Henig, 35 (25 goals, 10 assists) from Dickey and 22 (19 goals, three assists) from junior Kellie Gough. King leads the Mountain Hawks in both groundballs (27) and caused turnovers (13).
Â
Loyola has enjoyed an impressive season, currently standing No. 10 nationally in the IWLCA Division I Coaches poll. The Greyhounds stand 5-2 overall, beginning the season with close losses at Johns Hopkins (14-11) and Florida (17-16 in overtime) before rebounding with five consecutive wins. In its streak, Loyola has beaten Penn State (16-15), Towson (14-13 in three overtimes), Princeton (13-7), Virginia (19-18) and Army West Point (15-3). Four different Greyhounds have tallied 20 or more points, led by Livy Rosenzweig (15 points, 10 assists) and Hannah Powers (13 goals, team-leading 12 assists) with 25 points apiece. Frankie Kamely leads the team with 21 goals. Taylor VanThof leads the team with 41 draw controls to go with 21 points (20 goals, one assist). Lindsey Ehrhardt leads Loyola in groundballs (13) and caused turnovers (11). Kady Glynn has started all seven games in goal, recording a 13.48 goals against average and 0.442 save percentage.
Â
Lehigh trails the all-time series, 10-5 as Loyola is 5-0 against the Mountain Hawks since joining the Patriot League. Lehigh hasn't defeated Loyola since 1988, an 11-5 win. The last three meetings have been very competitive. Last year, Loyola scored the game's final two goals to win, 12-11. In 2016, Loyola won two meetings in Baltimore, 13-12 in overtime (regular season) and 13-8 (Patriot League Semifinals). Even in the semifinal matchup, the Mountain Hawks were within 10-8 with less than three minutes remaining before the Greyhounds pulled away.
Â
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Navy for a 5 p.m. opening draw.
