BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lehigh's women's swimming and diving team is competing as well as expected to begin the 2018-19 campaign. The Mountain Hawks are 3-1 and are coming off back-to-back home victories last weekend at home against West Chester last Friday and Rider last Saturday.
Â
On Saturday, Lehigh squares off with Loyola in an attempt to build momentum from last weekend.
Â
Once again, the 200 yard medley relay highlighted the weekend, as the team of Anna Francisco, Malia Wolf, Liz Olszewski and Payton Miles finished with a first place finish of 1:48.80 against Rider.
Â
The 1,000-yard freestyle event was won by Tori Connolly at 10:43.88, while Miles trumped Connolly in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.10.
Â
Allison Morel won the 100 yard breaststroke event against Rider with a time of 1:09.04 and Sarah Horne was victorious in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:07.63.
Â
In addition to helping the A-team win the 200 medley relay, Olszewski soared to a time of 2:26.30 in the 200-yard breaststroke to win the event. For her strong performance on Saturday, Olszewski was named a Patriot League Honorable Mention.
Â
The 200-yard IM event is in good hands for the Mountain Hawks with Courtney Ferreira coming off a Saturday victory with a time of 2:11.30. The team of Ann Foley, Grace Rogowski, Evie Gieseman and Ferreira won the 400-yard freestyle relay event with a time of 3:37.14.
Â
In recent weeks for the 50-yard freestyle event, it's been some combination of Miles or Foley that triumphed in the race. Foley got the best of Miles in the event on Saturday with a winning time of 24.05.
Â
Megan Fennell looks to continue her dominant stretch on the diving board after leaving last weekend with two first place finishes in the one-meter dive, good enough to receive honorable mention recognition from the Patriot League.
Â
The Loyola women are currently undefeated with sophomore Megan Dickey winning a pair of events to defeat Lafayette last weekend. Dickey won the 50-free event with a time of 24.74 and took the 100-free with a time of 24.74.
Â
Like the men, the Mountain Hawk women are also 5-0 all-time against Loyola. Lehigh is looking to start the season 4-1 for the fourth year in a row.
