Curtin Takes Home PL Rookie of the Week Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After earning two top-five finishes this past weekend, freshman thrower Brittany Curtin has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. It is the first weekly award this season for Curtin and the third for the Mountain Hawks.

Curtin had two strong performances on Friday at the Wagner Invitational in Staten Island, N.Y, taking runner-up out of 43 competitors in the weigh throw at 16.73 meters, hitting the ECAC qualifying mark in the event. She also placed fifth out of 38 in the shot put, tossing 12.77 meters. She was the highest placing rookie in both events, with her weight throw being a season-best.

Curtin is off to a solid start to the season, having previously thrown 16.05m in the weight throw and 12.82m in the shot put at the Lehigh Season Opener in December, as well as taking runner-up in the shot and third in the weight throw at the Fast Times Before Finals on Dec. 10.

As part of this week's awards, four Mountain Hawks earned honorable mention including Stacie Nadel, Trevor Knowles, Ryan Givens and Anastasios Mouzakis.

Lehigh will compete at home this weekend, hosting the Angry Birds Challenge on Saturday.
