NEW YORK, N.Y. – Lehigh senior Trevor Knowles set a pair of school records on Friday at the Dr. Sander Invitational at the Armory Track in New York. As a team, the Mountain Hawks took home fourth place out of 28 teams at the crowded meet. Knowles took home first place in the heptathlon, where he scored 5,596 points, besting his previous school benchmark of 5,447 from last winter's Patriot League Championships. As part of the heptathlon, Knowles also broke the Lehigh school record in the 60m hurdles at 8.15 seconds, besting the previous record of 8.21, which he shared since last weekend. Overall, his heptathlon score ranks 11th in the nation this season.
The Mountain Hawks also earned another win on the track from senior John Tolbert in the 3,000m (8:27.77).
Knowles and teammate Kyle Sult swept the top two spots in the heptathlon, with Sult finishing at 4,566 points. Both scores hit IC4A qualifying marks and rank first and seventh, respectively, in the Patriot League this season. Knowles set two PRs including the 60m (7.14) and the 60H, and tied his PR of 6.86m with a second place finish in the long jump. Knowles also placed second in the shot put and all told, won three of the heptahlon's seven events (60h, 60m, PV) and finished runner-up in three others (LJ, SP, 1,000m). Sult toppled three PRs in his second place hep performance, including marks of 7.39 in the 60m dash, 6.15m in the long jump and smashed his previous high mark in the pole vault by 35 centimeters (4.10m).
Elsewhere on the track, freshman Samuel Tapera placed ninth in the prelims of the 60m dash, one spot shy of qualifying for the finals. Michael Camera led the way in 16th place of 64 runners in the 200m dash in 22.68, three spots ahead of teammate Emre Soybas (22.81). Soybas also led Lehigh in 33rd place of the 400m (50.97) after winning his heat. Freshman Sean Brown cracked the top 10 in the 800m with a ninth place finish of 1:56.36, and Mitchell Daddario won his heat to set a new PR of 1:58.18 in 12th place.
In the 1,000m, Kyle Kirk finished 10th out of 24 (2:30.29), and Matt Kravitz (3rd/4:14.62) and Victor Yegon (9th/4:19.77) both tallied top 10 finishes in the mile. Tolbert's winning time of 8:27.77 in the 3,000m was an IC4A qualifier, and senior Patrick Reilly made his indoor season debut with a fifth place finish and IC4A qualifying time of his own in the 5,000m (14:35.01). The time currently ranks second in the PL this season. Two Mountain Hawks joined Reilly in the top 10 in Samuel Layding (7th/14:53.57) and Henry Paul (10th/15:05.60).
Over in the field events, Ryan Givens took fourth place in the long jump (6.79m) and Anastasios Mouzakis finished fifth in the weight throw at 16.80m.
