Mountain Hawks Split Squad on Two Meet Weekend at Rutgers and Bucknell

PISCATAWAY, N.J./LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lehigh men's track and field split their team between two events this weekend. The majority of the distance team made the trip to Bucknell University for the Bison Outdoor Classic, while the remaining athletes traveled to New Jersey for the Rutgers Relays.
Rutgers Relays
Lehigh's lone event win at Rutgers was in the 400 meter hurdles. Nic Bressi took home the crown, running 54.47 to win the event
The Mountain Hawks had two throwers reach the podium in two different events. Joseph Nowakowski was the runner-up in the shot put. The senior launched the shot 15.85 meters. He was also Lehigh's top thrower in the discus, placing eighth with a 43.55-meter throw. Will Jaques earned third in the javelin throw. The senior threw the spear 59.82 meters.
Nathan Oliphant finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the line at 14.75.
Two Mountain Hawks finished in the top ten in jumping events. Jaden Ferguson earned fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters. Daniel Givens placed 10th in the triple jump, leaping 13.40 meters.
Evan Weber set a personal record to finish fifth in the 5000. The first-year ran 15:31.74, lowering his personal best by 11 seconds. He was joined by fellow first-year Jacob Nedimyer in the top 10. Nedimyer placed seventh, running 15:48.24. Lehigh's best runners in each of the remaining distance events finished within the top 15. Peter Priestner placed 13th in the 800 meters, clocking 1:57.46. Ryan Macom finished 14th in the 1500 meter run, crossing the line at 4:06.85.
Lehigh had eighth place finishers in each of the two shortest sprinting events. Eddie Moore finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a personal best time. The junior ran 10.70, which improved his previous record by a tenth of a second and moved him into the third place spot on Lehigh's all-time performance list. First-year Cole Swick placed eighth place in the 200 meter dash, running 21.65.
Josh Porter placed ninth as Lehigh's best hammer thrower. The sophomore threw 44.96 meters, a new personal record.
Lehigh placed seventh in both relay events. Bressi, Swick, Ferguson and Moore made up the 4x100 meter relay, running a lap in 44.02 seconds. In the 4x400 meter relay, Bressi, Priestner, Logan Haverkamp, and Austin Iburg collectively ran 3:24.67.
Bison Outdoor Classic
Noah Zahn earned the highest placing spot for Lehigh at Bucknell. The junior won the unseeded section of the 5000 meter run, crossing the line at 15:04.68. Will Mrozinksi was Lehigh's fastest 5k runner on the day. He ran 15:01.81 in the invitational section, a 15-second personal best.
Alex Heidemann finished seventh in the 800 meter, running 1:50.34. Aidan LaTourette won his heat with the time of 1:53.23. This was the fastest time he has ever ran outdoors, and it earned him 23rd.
Ryan Baker ran 29:52.96 to finish 10th in the 10,000 meter. This was a 1:43 improvement on his previous personal record, and makes him the fourth fastest 10,000 meter runner in Lehigh track and field history.
All four of Lehigh's 1500 meter runners in the unseeded section placed in the top 20. Ben Connell ran 3:58.53 to place 10th, and Isaac Greene ran 3:58.86 to place just behind him in 12th. This was a five-second improvement to Green's personal record, marking the first time the sophomore broke the four-minute mark. Both Danny Walter and Charlie Butler ran personal bests to round out the top 20. Walter ran 4:00.04 to place 19th, and Butler placed 20th at 4:00.18. Dan Malatesta was Lehigh's fastest runner in the invitational section, running 3:54.11 to place 60th.
Henry Burd was Lehigh's top 3000 meter steeplechase runner. The senior placed 28th by running 9:29.71, a 14-second improvement on his personal best.
The Mountain Hawks divide their athletes again for competition next weekend. Lehigh will send athletes to Charlottesville for the Virginia Challenge, April 17-18, and back to Rutgers University for the ECAC/IC4A Championships, April 18-19.
