Men’s Track and Field Powers Past Lafayette in Annual Dual Meet 106-75

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's track and field team grabbed its fifth straight win over rival Lafayette on the indoor track Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse. Lehigh won 12 of the 17 events and swept seven events by earning the maximum number of eight points to take the 45th annual indoor dual meet by a score of 106-75.
Senior Trevor Knowles won three of the five events he participated in, including tying the school record of 8.21 seconds in the 60m hurdles. He also captured wins in the pole vault and long jump, as well as placing third in the high jump and fourth in the shot put to earn Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Junior Emre Soybas took home Track Athlete of the Meet honors after winning the 200m and 400m dashes.
On the track, freshman Samuel Tapera ran a season-best 7.03 seconds to win the 60m dash with Michael Camera taking second (7.11). Soybas ran 22.95 and 51.27 in his 200 and 400m wins, respectively. Junior Mitchell Daddario finished runner-up in the 500m with a PR of 1:09.79.
In the 800m, Kyle Kirk led the way to a sweep with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:55.84 to win the race, followed by Victor Yegon in PR time of 1:59.78. Matt Kravitz (2:31.49) and Ryan Grace (2:32.68) both set PRs with their sweep in the 1,000m, Jeffrey Kirshenbaum (4:18.95) broke the tape in the mile with John Tolbert (4:23.94) taking runner-up, and Henry Paul was the top finisher in the 3,000m with a winning time of 8:50.22. Samuel Layding (8:51.10) followed close behind in second.
In the hurdles, Knowles' school record tying performance hit an IC4A qualifying mark and was 31 hundredths faster than second place finisher, Kyle Sult (8.52). Lehigh also grabbed a win in the 4x800 relay, courtesy of Ryan Grace, Jack Curran, Kirshenbaum and Alexander Fitzgerald.
Lehigh grabbed a sweep in the long jump with Knowles' 6.86-meter PR and Matt Solomon's second place leap of 6.77m. Senior Michael Gooding had a first place leap of 14.03m in the triple jump.
In the throws, junior Alexander Rodgers (14.88m) took second in the shot put, finishing one centimeter shy of his PR, and freshman Anastasios Mouzakis hit an IC4A qualifying mark and set a new PR of 17.42m with his runner-up toss in the weight throw.
Next up, Lehigh will host its final home meet of the season next Saturday with the 26th annual John Covert Classic at Rauch Fieldhouse.
