Leary Welcomes Addition of 10 Newcomers to Baseball Program

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball head coach Sean Leary officially announces the addition of 10 new Mountain Hawks who will make up the graduating class of 2021. The group of newcomers hails from five different states, including a strong representation from eastern Pennsylvania, in addition to recruits from as far away as Illinois and Florida.
"We are very excited to announce the 2017 recruiting class. Coach John Fugett has done another outstanding job as our recruiting coordinator in assembling this deep and talented group," stated Leary. "Our recruiting focus continues to target high character student-athletes who have a winning pedigree. Many of these young men played large roles in their high school programs winning conference, district and state championships."
Infielder Eric Cichocki, outfielders Quinn McKenna and Tyler Schreiner, and catcher Joe Yupp make up the group of incoming position players. Cichocki and Screiner both hail from the Lehigh Valley, while McKenna joins a large contingency of current Mountain Hawks from the southeastern Pennsylvania region. Yupp expands the LU recruiting footprint south as he is one of two newcomers from the state of Florida.
"The position players in this class will definitely provide strong competition for our returning players, while also pushing for playing time next spring," said Leary. "The combination of speed and power with this group should fit nicely into our offensive philosophies."
Leary welcomes in a crop of six new arms in the latest incoming class. Zach Boop, Yash Rane, Matt Svanson, Peter Woltersdorf and Sam Wurth make up the list of right-handers, while Cameron Van Hoorebeke represents the lone left-hander in the group. Boop, Rane Van Hoorebeke and Woltersdorf all all hail from states in the mid-Atlantic region, while Illinois native Svanson and Florida native Wurth add further diversity to the group's address book.
"On the mound, we also feel confident that this group has the talent to push for time immediately. These young men have pitched in high pressure, championship level games and we believe that shortens their learning curve as they adjust to the collegiate level," said Leary. "We are really excited about our returning arms and we believe this group will add depth and competition for critical pitching roles."
