Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Action at the Muhlenberg Spring Invitational

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team captured wins in eight events on Saturday, including two from senior Courtney Wu at the Muhlenberg Spring Invitational. The unscored meet also saw five different Mountain Hawks combine for six runner-up finishes and six third place marks.
Seniors Leah Ferguson (13.09) and Kaitlyn Ruffing (27.22) led the way for Lehigh in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, respectively, each finishing in third place. Lehigh finished three runners in the top six of the 400 meter dash, with freshman Brooke Schaeffer (59.50) landing on the podium in third, followed by Lindsay Voltz (1:01.20) in fifth and Rachel Okun (1:01.22) in sixth.
Sophomore Clare Severe led the way in the 800m, finishing first out of 40 runners in personal record time of 2:14.70. Freshman Mary Casey (2:19.35) followed close behind to finish second overall, and Sophie Antonioli (2:19.61) finished just off the podium in fourth. Over in the 1500m, Tyler Scanlin (4th/4:50.48) and Jenn Mickens (5th/4:51.64) rounded out the top five, while Ashley Strysko (4:56.01) took home eighth place overall in a race that featured 45 finishers.
Senior Amanda Ruschel was Lehigh's lone representative in the 5K, where she cracked the top 10 in eighth place overall in 18:40.96.
Lehigh dominated in the 100m hurdles by sweeping the podium and landing five runners in the top eight overall. Senior Katie Hatler picked up one of her two wins on the day with her time of 14.44 seconds, Natalie Jacobs (15.13) placed second, followed by Noreen Byrne (15.27) in third. Senior Sarah Cassidy rounded out the top five with a new PR of 15.84 seconds, and Mariah Kozub also set a new PR in eighth place in 15.99. Over in the 400m hurdles, Byrne continued Lehigh's strong day in the hurdles by breaking the tape in 1:03.97, with Jacobs (1:04.64) following close behind in second.
Rounding out the day on the track, Lehigh's 'A' teams took home first place in both the 4x100 and 4x400, with Hatler, Iman Mosley, Jacobs and Ferguson winning the 4x1 in 49.38 seconds, while Ruffing, Schaeffer, Kristen Lavallee and Amanda Fischer combined to win 4x4 in 3:59.80.
In the jumps, Wu topped the field to win both the long jump (5.07m) and triple jump (10.81m) to pick up her first two wins of the outdoor season. She led a strong Lehigh contingent in the long jump as senior Courtney Avery (4.98m) and Kiana Wright (4.96m) helped the Mountain Hawks sweep the podium.
Avery later took first place in the high jump at 1.68 meters, and Tyler Bannister (3.20m) and Caity Reverend (3.05m) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the pole vault.
In the throws, senior Amanda Youngblood led LU in both the shot put and discus, taking runner up in the discus (42.80m) and third in the shot (11.48m). Paige Grossman tied her PR of 39.33m by finishing fourth in the discus. Over in the javelin, freshman Hannah Patrick earned a runner-up finish with her toss of 39.69m.
Up next for the Mountain Hawks will be the team's annual showdown with rival Lafayette in the two school's annual dual meet next Saturday, April 8 at the Metzgar Fields Sports Complex in Easton, Pa.
