Lehigh Tops Lafayette 132-71 in Annual Track Dual Meet

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team won 15 events on Saturday, including all eight field events to power past rival Lafayette by a score of 132-71. Junior Paige Grossman had three podium finishes on the day, including a win in the hammer throw, senior Amanda Youngblood picked up two wins and senior Sarah Cassidy earned a pair of runner-up finishes. For their performances, freshman Ashleigh Crawford was named Lehigh's Track Athlete of the Meet after setting a new personal record in her steeplechase victory, and Youngblood took home Field Athlete of the Meet honors. Paired with the men's team win, Lehigh completed the season sweep of the Leopards in both indoor and outdoor track for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Senior Courtney Avery leapt 1.70 meters in the high jump to lead Lehigh top a sweep of the event with senior Brittany Le Jouan in second and freshman Jordan Otto in third. Kiana Wright leapt 5.50 meters in the long jump to pick up the victory, followed by Cassidy (5.39m) in second place and Courtney Wu (5.24m) in third. Wu picked up her third victory of the season in the triple jump, flying 11.50 meters to finish first, edging out teammates Wright and Tyler Bannister, who finished second and third, respectively.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Toman won the pole vault at 3.55 meters, and was joined on the podium by Bannister, who PR-ed at 3.25 meters in third place. Youngblood turned in two victories in the shot put (12.75m) and discus (37.25m), and also finished runner-up in the hammer throw (45.60m) to earn a total of 13 teams points on the day. Cassidy finished second in the shot put, followed by Grossman in third. Grossman also went on to earn a victory of her own in the hammer throw, setting a new personal benchmark with a toss of 46.99 meters, and also took second in the discus (36.26m).

The Mountain Hawks picked up one more sweep in the javelin with senior Melody Walthers leading the way at 38.91 meters. Freshman Hannah Patrick took second place by throwing 37.79 meters and Meghan Reilly earned a third place finish of 37.33m.

In the sprints, freshman Leah Ferguson led Lehigh in a clean sweep of the podium, winning the event in 12.69 seconds, just ahead of Liyala Dickens (2nd/12.75) and Katie Hatler (3rd/12.77). Dickens and Ferguson also led Lehigh in the 200m, with Dickens (25.74) taking second and Ferguson (26.37) finishing third. Freshman Brooke Schaeffer (58.13) PR-ed in second place of the 400 meters, and Lehigh took the top two places of the 800m run courtesy of freshman Clare Severe (1st/2:16.87) and senior Marissa Karl (2nd/2:17.24).

The 1500m and 5,000m both saw clean sweeps for the Brown and White with freshman Hannah Bonaguidi (1st/4:42.73), junior Laura Barnes (2nd/4:46.43) and senior Brenna Clark (4:47.37) leading way in the 1500. Sophomore Maura Henderson was the top finisher in the 5K, winning the race in 17:16.15, followed by Ashley Strysko (2nd/18:36.36) and Sydney Brannon (3rd/19:08.18).

Senior Katie Hatler took first place in the 100m hurdles, followed by Noreen Byrne who PR-ed in second place. Byrne also finished runner-up in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 1:03.61. Crawford (PR-11:13.76) led the way in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing just ahead of Stacie Nadel (2nd/11:21.97), and Lehigh capped off the day with a victory in the 4x400 meter relay team of Hanna Brosky, Brooke Schaeffer, Kaitlyn Ruffing and Lindsay Voltz.

A busy week awaits the Mountain Hawks as they will send athletes to three different meets including the Mt. Sac Relays in California, the (Bucknell) Bison Outdoor Classic and the (Moravian) Greyhound Invitational.
