RALEIGH, N.C. – The Lehigh softball team closed out action at the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP invitational with a 6-1 setback to Rutgers Sunday morning at Dail Softball Stadium. For the second straight day Scarlet Knight pitching limited the Mountain Hawks to just four hits as Lehigh finishes the invite at 1-4.

Freshman Mary-Hannah Smith drove in the lone run for Lehigh, which falls to 4-6 overall. Rutgers improves to 3-11.

The Scarlet Knights tagged Lehigh pitching for 11 hits and capitalized off three Mountain Hawk errors.

Smith's first-inning RBI double scored sophomore Jen Stoll to give Lehigh an early 1-0 lead but Rutgers answered with six unanswered runs.

Consecutive RBI singles by Sierra Maddox and Hailey Hoklotubbe in the top of the second gave Rutgers a 2-1 lead. The Scarlet Knights put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth inning behind a Carly Todd sacrifice fly and a three-run home run by Rebecca Hall.

Shayla Sweeney went the distance in the circle for Rutgers, allowing a run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Senior Christine Campbell started for Lehigh and took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Emily Sorem was charged with the other four runs.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action next weekend when they kick off their spring break trip to northern California at the Stanford Easton Classic, beginning with a Friday night tilt with Cal Poly, beginning at 7:15 p.m. ET.
