Thompson Receives Patriot League Weekly Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior Meghan Thompson has been tabbed the Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career as the league announced its weekly awards Tuesday.

The defending Patriot League 1650 free champion is fresh off her first appearance at the U.S. Winter National Championships where she competed in the 500 and 1650 freestyle events. In the 500, the senior qualified for the event with a time of 4:48.67 and posted a mark of 4:53.36 to advance to the C Final last Thursday evening. In the evening session on Thursday, Thompson improved on her preliminary pace with a time of 4:52.11 to finish seventh in her heat. Her finals' time is also a personal best so far this season.

In the 1650, Thompson was entered in Heat 1 with a Lehigh school record mark of 16:32.57, which was her winning time last season at the Patriot League Championships. Last Saturday, the senior recorded a time of 17:03.72 to finish seventh in her heat and 15th overall. Former SEC Champion (1650 free) and NCAA All-American, Ashely Nedigh, posted a personal-best time of 15:38.35 to claim the top overall time.

Thompson's 500-yard freestyle time of 4:52.11 is the best in the League this season while her 1,650-yard freestyle time of 17:03.72 is good enough for fourth.

The Mountain Hawks return to competition Tuesday, January 9 when they travel to Army West Point for a Patriot League dual. Diving starts at 4:30 p.m., while the swimming events begin at 5:30 p.m.
