Each of the teams and individuals competing will be vying for a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships on November 18 in Louisville, Ky. The top two teams from each region, plus 13 at-large teams from across the country will qualify for the national championships. After teams have been determined, 38 additional individuals will be selected to compete at nationals. A complete breakdown of the qualification process can be found by clicking here.
Participating Women's Teams
American, Bucknell, Delaware, Duquesne, George Washington, Georgetown, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Md.), Marshall, Maryland, Monmouth, Navy, NJIT, Penn, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, St. Francis (Pa.), Seton Hall, St. Joseph's (Pa.), Temple, Towson, Villanova and West Virginia.
All of the teams ranked in the top 15 of the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings will compete at the meet, including No. 11 Lehigh. Five teams from the Patriot League - American, Bucknell, Lafayette, Loyola and Navy - will all be traveling to Bethlehem for the second straight meet, following the Patriot League Championships on Oct. 28. Bucknell took home their second straight team title, while Navy was next among Mid-Atlantic schools in third place. Lehigh followed next in fourth with American taking sixth.
The regional meet will be Lehigh's fifth race on their home course this season, their most races at home in at least the last 14 seasons. While racing at home during the regular season, the Mountain Hawks placed third at the season-opening Lehigh Invitational, a meet that was won by West Virginia with Rutgers taking runner-up. Lehigh followed with the team's first ever perfect score in the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet with a 15-50 win. The Mountain Hawks also placed 17th out of 40 teams in the highly competitive Gold Race at the Paul Short Run, which featured four nationally-ranked Division I teams.
This season, Maura Henderson has led the Mountain Hawks' pack in four of her five races, including the Paul Short Gold Race, highlighted by the fourth-fastest time ever by a Lehigh runner on the 6K Goodman Campus Course (20:51.5). Sophomore Hannah Bonaguidi has finished second on the team in three of her four meets this season, and junior Stacie Nadel has had a breakout season, finishing first on the team at the Lehigh Invitational and the Penn State National Open, and finished second on the team (15th overall) at the Patriot League Championships. Sophomores Stephanie Hayes and Diana Hammerstone have each been mainstays in Lehigh's top seven this year, with Hammertsone accumulating four top-five finishes this season. Sophomore Ashleigh Crawford has finished in the team's top five in all five of her races this season, including a PR of 21:31.2 at Paul Short. Freshmen Elyse Barkstrom and Hannah Knudsen have also been members of Lehigh's top seven multiple times this season and sophomore Jenn Mickens is coming off a PR of 22:39.8 at the PL Championships.
The women's 6K race will kick things off Friday morning at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men's 10K at 11:45 a.m. Awards ceremonies for both races will follow the conclusion of the men's race inside Goodman Stadium.
