Redfern announces 2018 women’s lacrosse schedule

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a fourth straight appearance in the Patriot League Tournament, Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern announced the Mountain Hawks' 2018 schedule on Tuesday, highlighted by home games vs. reigning Final Four team Penn State and National Quarterfinalist Princeton. Lehigh also hosts big Patriot League games vs. Loyola, Colgate, Lafayette and Bucknell. In total, the Mountain Hawks will face two of the final four and three of the final eight teams left standing in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Lehigh will play its earliest game in program history when it opens the season at home vs. St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 10. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the Mountain Hawks and Bonnies. Lehigh remains home the following Saturday to host two-time defending Final Four qualifier Penn State the on Feb. 17.
The Mountain Hawks will hit the road on Saturday, Feb. 24 to face Columbia at 1 p.m. before returning home to host perennial power Princeton on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Last season, the Tigers finished 15-4, defeating Cornell in the NCAA Tournament before falling at Penn State in the national quarterfinals, 14-12.
Following a matchup at Wagner on Saturday, Mar. 3, Lehigh will host VCU on Tuesday, Mar. 6 and travel to Mount St. Mary's on Friday, Mar. 9. A home game vs. Fairfield on Sunday, Mar. 11 wraps up a busy stretch and marks Lehigh's final nonleague contest of the season.
Patriot League play begins on Saturday, Mar. 17 at Boston University. Last season, the Mountain Hawks pulled out a thrilling 13-12 victory over the Terriers which helped them earn the No. 3 seed in the league tournament.
Lehigh will host Loyola for a second straight season, one year after a slim 12-11 defeat that came down to the final seconds. The Mountain Hawks and Greyhounds will square off on Saturday, Mar. 24.
The Mountain Hawks hit the road for their next two, at defending league champion and Final Four participant Navy on Wednesday, Mar. 28 and Army West Point on Saturday, the 31st.
Lehigh returns home on Saturday, Apr. 7 to host Colgate before heading to Holy Cross the following Saturday. The Mountain Hawks wrap up their home schedule with games vs. Lafayette on Wednesday, Apr. 14 and Bucknell on Saturday, Apr. 22. Lehigh closes the regular season at American on Saturday, Apr. 28.
The Patriot League Quarterfinals are set for Tuesday, May 1 with the semifinals and championship game the ensuing weekend (May 4 and 6) at the No. 1 seed and regular season champion. Lehigh has advanced to four straight league tournaments, winning a game and reaching the semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2017 season 12-6, improving their record over the last two seasons to 25-11 mark, tied for the third most wins over a two-year stretch in school history. Lehigh featured three first team All-League honorees and finished third in the Patriot League standings with a 6-3 league mark, its best finish since 2011.
