Lehigh Wraps Up Four Game Road Trip Monday at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Lehigh women's basketball team will cap its four game road trip to start the season on Monday evening with a trip to upstate New York to take on Cornell, its first matchup with an Ivy League opponent since the 2012-13 season.
After shooting 40.0 percent from the field and averaging 74 points through the first two games of the season, Lehigh struggled to score in its 62-42 loss on Friday night against Villanova, shooting just 23 percent including 22.2 percent from long range. Sophomore Cameryn Benz was a bright spot for Lehigh, scoring a career-high 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds, one shy of her career-high. Benz is tied for the second on the team in scoring this season with classmate Camryn Buhr at 10.3 points per game. Buhr and point guard Hannah Hedstrom each average a team-leading 7.3 rebounds per game, with Benz pulling down 6.3 boards per game.
Cornell (0-3) is getting familiar with the Patriot League early this season, dropping a 78-63 decision to Loyola (Md.) and most recently falling 74-70 at home against Colgate. The Big Red also lost 51-39 at Pittsburgh on Nov. 13.
Both teams have gotten off to strong starts on the glass, with Lehigh holding a 3.5 rebounding margin, and Cornell sitting at 7.7.
ALL-TIME VS. CORNELL
Lehigh and Cornell will meet for just the seventh time on Monday and just the third time ever in Ithaca. Lehigh won the first ever matchup between the two on Jan. 7, 1984 at the Cornell Tournament, and the Big Red took the only other matchup in Ithaca 80-68 on Jan. 5, 1996. Lehigh holds a 4-2 mark in the all-time series.
The most recent matchup was won by Lehigh 79-57 in the opening game of the 2002 Christmas City Classic at Stabler Arena.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell enters Monday's matchup sporting a 0-3 record and has dropped both games so far this season against Patriot League opponents. After opening the season with a 15-point loss at Loyola, the Big Red dropped a 51-39 decision at Pittsburgh before falling 74-70 in Thursday's home opener against Colgate.
Sophomore guard Samantha Widmann is the only Cornell player averaging in double figures with 17.3 points per game and ranks third with 5.7 rebounds. Danielle Jorgenson leads the team with 3.3 assists per game ranks second in scoring with 7.7 ppg. Elodie Furey has a team-best seven rebounds per game and boasts a field goal pct. of 37.0 percent.
As a team, Cornell is shooting just 33 percent overall and 25 percent from beyond the arc, while averaging 57.3 points per game. On the defensive end, they have allowed opponents to shoot 48.1 percent thus far and 67.7 points per contest. The Big Red have also averaged 23 turnovers in their first three games.
Widmann is coming off a career-night in the home opener against Colgate, scoring a career-best 25 points on 5-of-14 shooting with six rebounds, while going 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Jorgenson finished with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Stephanie Umeh added 10 points.
