BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team will take on Villanova at PPL Center in Allentown on Friday afternoon in what will be the first appearance at the arena for both programs. Each team is coming off an 18-point road victory in their last game, with Lehigh topping Monmouth on Tuesday and Villanova winning its season-opener at Hartford last Friday.
Senior Quinci Mann scored a game-high 24 points at Monmouth to move into 13th place on Lehigh's all-time scoring list, and fifth on the school's career three-point list. Camryn Buhr netted a career-high 16 points and tied a career-best with nine rebounds, Cameryn Benz pulled down a career-high eight rebounds, and Gena Grundhoffer also tallied 16 points. LU outrebounded Monmouth 47-38 and held Monmouth to 18.1 percent shooting from three-point range.
Through two games, Mann is second in the Patriot League in 3FG pct (37.5) and 3FG/game (2.5). Freshman Mariah Sexe also ranks in the top five in the PL with 1.5 blocks per game.
This will be the second matchup between the two schools at PPL Center. The Villanova and Lehigh men's programs squared off in the first-ever basketball game at the arena on Nov. 14, 2014.
ALL-TIME VS. VILLANOVA
Lehigh and Villanova will meet for the 10th time in program history on Friday afternoon. It will be the first time the two teams meet off of either school's campus. Lehigh enters the game winless against Nova on the road, having lost all four of the previous road meetings. This game will mark the ninth time in the last 10 seasons the two teams have met up.
After winning the inaugural matchup 88-52 during the 1983-84 season, Villanova made it two in a row during the 2008-09 season with a 58-52 win. Lehigh grabbed its only win of the series on Dec. 5, 2009 with an 80-65 win at Stabler Arena.
Three of the last six games between the two have gone to overtime, with Nova winning all three times. Villanova has outscored the Mountain Hawks by an average of 63.0-51.5 in games at The Pavilion. Lehigh averages just under 61 ppg against Villanova at home, with their highest output coming in their 15-point win back in 2009.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Villanova was picked third in the Big East Preseason Poll, after going 20-15 overall last season, where they won four games in the WNIT before falling 65-61 at Michigan. Nova returns four starters and eight letterwinners in 2017-18 from last year's squad.
Junior guard Adrianna Hahn was named to the Preseason All-Big East Team after averaging 12.6 ppg and shooting a team-leading 41.1 percent from three-point range last season.
Villanova enters the matchup exactly one week after their only game of the season. The Wildcats shot nearly 47 percent from the field in their season-opening 71-53 win at Hartford, while holding the Hawks to just 30.5 percent shooting, and just 1-of-15 from three-point range.
In the opener, Hahn led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-20 shooting with four three-pointers. Four Wildcats reached double figures with Mary Gedaka registering a double-double with 15 pts and 11 rbs, Kelly Jekot picking up 10 pts and seven rbs, and Jannah Tucker scoring 10 pts. Nova outrebounded Hartford 45-33 and created seven steals off 10 Hartford turnovers.
In last year's game at The Pavilion, Hahn scored 11 points and Tucker added 10 to lead all returners in Villanova's 59-37 win over Lehigh. Gedaka chipped in eight points as Nova shot 40 percent for the game, and held Lehigh to 28.1 percent from the field.
