BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer head coach Dean Koski has announced the promotion of Ryan Hess to Associate Head Coach. Hess will be entering his sixth season as a member of the Lehigh men's soccer staff, the last four of which he has served as the full-time assistant coach after serving two as the part-time assistant coach.
"Ryan is very deserving of this promotion and I'm appreciative for the opportunity to name him Associate Head Coach," said Koski. "Ryan has done an extraordinary job of learning how to be a better coach, recruiter, manager, mentor, supervisor and communicator throughout his time at Lehigh and all of that is the result of his commitment to his professional growth. Ryan has assumed many administrative and coaching responsibilities that have enabled me to spend more time on recruiting, player development and alumni relationships. This is the type of advancement we want for our staff when they are achieving at the highest levels."
Hess helped guide Lehigh to its second-ever Patriot League Championship and fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015. During his five years on Lehigh's staff, Hess has helped mentor 15 All-Patriot League selections, seven All-Region honorees and five Academic All-Patriot League picks.
Prior to Lehigh, Hess enjoyed a strong playing career in which he was four-year starter, three-time captain and two-time team MVP at Moravian under current Lehigh women's soccer coach Eric Lambinus. Upon graduation in 2008, Hess served as an assistant coach at Muhlenberg College in 2009 before heading back to Moravian in 2010 to join its staff.
"Six years ago, I presented Ryan with the opportunity to be a part of our program and he took a leap of faith by coming to join our staff as a part-time coach," explained Koski. "As an assistant for two years, he learned a great deal under the direct supervision of Coach Michael Benn. When Coach Benn left to take a head coaching job at West Chester, Ryan was the ideal person to step into the full-time assistant role and he has done a tremendous job to date. I'm excited to reward Ryan's hard work with this promotion to Associate Head Coach and look forward to the contributions he will continue to make to our program."
The Mountain Hawks will begin preseason camp in early August with the 2016 season opener set for August 26 at James Madison. The Mountain Hawks are coming off an impressive 2015 season that saw Lehigh go 13-6-3 and win the Patriot League Tournament to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
