Lehigh Takes Eight Events at Muhlenberg Invitational

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field program competed in their third weekend of the outdoor season on Saturday at the Muhlenberg Invitational. Lehigh captured eight wins at the unscored meet which featured over a dozen schools, including Division I foes Lafayette, Seton Hall and Princeton.
Lehigh turned out a strong day in field events, winning four and placing in the top two of all eight events. Gabrielle Wardle took first place in the high jump (1.72m), Kiana Wright won the triple jump (11.50m), Nia Baker took home the shot put title (12.21m) and Amanda Youngblood set a new PR with her win in the discus throw (44.28).
Overall Lehigh placed four athletes in the top five of the high jump, with Courtney Avery taking second place, tying with Wardle for the top spot with a 1.72m leap. Sarah Cassidy took home fourth place at 1.59m, and Brittany Le Jouan (1.57m) rounded out the top five.
Wardle also added a runner-up showing in the long jump (5.30m), while Kaitlyn Toman also took second in the pole vault (3.30m).
Lehigh swept the top three places in the triple jump, as Wright (11.50m), Noreen Byrne (10.72m) and Courtney Wu (10.50m) all medaled, while Le Jouan finished in fifth. Michaela Bubak led the Brown and White with a second place (46.66M) showing in the hammer throw and Meghan Reilly led the team in second place (37.78) of the javelin.
Byrne also had a strong day in the hurdles, capturing first place in the 400m hurdles, breaking the tape in 1:06.81. She also tallied a runner-up performance in the 100m hurdles, finishing second (15.67) to teammate Gabrielle Wardle (15.28).
Maura Henderson made her collegiate 3000m steeplechase debut with a second place showing (11:34.85).
The 4x100 relay team notched a win of its own as Katie Hatler, Liyala Dickens, Leah Ferguson and Alexa Alhout combined on the winning time of 49.49 seconds.
In the sprints, Leah Ferguson competed in the 100 meter dash with a fourth place finish (12.91). Alexa Alhout joined her in the top 10 by finishing in ninth place.
Dickens (26.23) took runner-up in the 200m dash, leading a strong performance by Lehigh, who placed four runners in the top 10. Kaitlyn Ruffing (27.03) crossed the line in fourth place, with Ferguson finishing in seventh and Amanda Fischer in ninth. Rachel Okun later took a third place tally in the 400m dash (1:01.19).
The Mountain Hawks dominated the 800m dash, grabbing five of the top seven places in the field of 51 finishers. Laura Barnes landed on the podium in second (2:19.53), one spot ahead of Marissa Karl (2:19.59), while Hannah Leskow, Stephanie Hayes and Hanna Brosky all captured spots five-through-seven, respectively.
Lehigh continued its success in the middle distance events with Tyler Scanlin (4:41.09) capturing first place in the 1500m run and Ann O'Connell (4:47.56) joining her on the podium in third place.
The Mountain Hawks will compete again next Saturday in their annual dual meet against Lafayette. The action gets underway at 11:30 a.m. at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex in Easton.
