EASTON, Pa. – Senior Gabrielle Wardle collected three wins to help lead the Lehigh women's track and field team past rival Lafayette 117-85 on Sunday. In total, Lehigh collected wins in 11 events, including seven of the eight field events. Wardle was named the Field Athlete of the Meet, while freshman Noreen Byrne took home Track Athlete of the Meet honors for Lehigh after winning the 400m hurdles and finishing fifth in the 100m hurdles. The win also helped the Mountain Hawk women sweep the Leopards in the 2015-16 dual meet series, having previously won this year's indoor track and cross country dual meets.

On the track, it was the seniors leading the way for the Brown and White in the 5K with Elizabeth Weiler grabbing her first outdoor victory of the season, finishing ahead of the pack to win in 17:58.30. Arielle Weiner earned points for her third place finish of 18:41.14.

Junior Marissa Karl powered Lehigh to a victory in the 1500 meter run, breaking the tape in 4:44.07, over a second faster than teammate Stephanie Hayes (4:45.36), who took second place.

Junior Katie Hatler and Byrne won their respective hurdle events for the second straight weekend as Hatler crossed the line first in the 100m hurdles (14.66), and Byrne in the 400m hurdles (PR-1:04.34).

Sophomore Liyala Dickens took second place and junior Leah Ferguson came in fourth in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Junior Kaitlyn Ruffing led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the 400m dash, crossing the line in third (59.93).

In the mid-distance, sophomores Tyler Scanlin (2:19.28) and Laura Barnes (2:20.09) scored points in second and third places, respectively, in the 800m run.

Freshman Maura Henderson set a new season-best with her second place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:19.68). Freshman Stacie Nadel followed closely behind in third place (11:23.99).

In the field, freshman Nia Baker captured two wins on the day in the hammer throw (45.40m) and notched her third win of the year in the shot put (12.51m), while setting new personal records in both. Lehigh also earned points from juniors Michaela Bubak in the hammer throw (2nd/43.99m) and Sarah Cassidy in the shot put (3rd/11.45).

"Nia (Baker) and (Liyala) Dickens had great days," head coach Matt Utesch said. "Nia is a freshman and won two events against people who are pretty stacked up in the league. It really bodes well for our whole throwing group going towards the Patriot League Championships."

Wardle highlighted her strong day with a pair of personal record victories in both the high jump (1.73m) and the javelin (42.51m). Junior Brittany Le Jouan (1.65m) and freshman Olivia Reinold made it a clean sweep for Lehigh in the high jump (1.55m), while juniors Melody Walthers (2nd/37.79m) and Meghan Reilly (36.93m) helped lead a Lehigh sweep of the javelin.

Wardle collected her third win of the day in the long jump, leading the way for a Mountain Hawks sweep of the podium with her leap of 5.46m. Kiana Wright (5.35m) and Courtney Wu (5.14m) followed behind Wardle to round out the top three.

Wardle's high jump (1.73m) currently ranks as the highest leap in the Patriot League this season, and her javelin throw of 42.51 meters ranks second in the league.

"(Wardle's) really coming into her own," Utesch said. "She can go much higher too and we're excited to see her doing so well. Her javelin was excellent and she's shaping up to be a phenomenal multi at the Patriot League Championships."

Wright then led the way with a win in the triple jump (11.12m), while her teammate Le Jouan took second place. Junior Amanda Youngblood also captured her third discuss throw victory in as many meets, with a toss of 44.28 meters.

Freshmen Kaitlyn Toman (3.40m) and Tyler Bannister (2.95m) went two-three in the pole vault.

Lehigh's next meet will be Friday-Saturday April 15-16 at the Greyhound Invitational at Moravian College.
