BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team grabbed three wins on Saturday from junior Kiana Wright, freshman Nia Baker and junior Courtney Avery at the Greyhound Invitational, hosted by Moravian College. Wardle previously led Lehigh on Friday afternoon in the heptathlon at the Princeton Outdoor Invitational. Wright set a new outdoor school record in the triple jump, besting the previous program benchmark that was set back in 1997.
Wright's new record came on Saturday at Moravian, where she notched her fourth triple jump win of the outdoor campaign, and fifth win overall with a leap of 11.69 meters. The mark broke the previous school record of 11.66m set by Cecelia Hall in 1997. Wright is now Lehigh's school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump, having set the school indoor record of 11.90m at this year's Patriot League Indoor Championships.
Wardle began the weekend for Lehigh by winning the heptathlon on Friday at the Princeton Invite. She won three events including the high jump (1.66m), long jump (5.50m) and javelin (39.74m), and took second in the 100m hurdles to set a new personal best heptathlon score of 4,920.
Teammate Sarah Cassidy finished with 4,386 points in third place for a new PR, highlighted by a win in the shot put (11.71m) and a second place finish in the javelin (38.64m). Freshman Tyler Bannister (3,681 pts) and Olivia Reinold (3,497 pts) finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth places, respectively, in their collegiate heptathlon debuts.
At Moravian, Baker won the hammer throw for the second straight week, setting a new PR with her toss of 46.02 meters. Sophomore Paige Grossman cracked the top five with a fifth place finish and a new personal best of her own at 44.85m and junior Michaela Bubak finishing 11th in the field of 26 finishers. Grossman also represented Lehigh in the discus with a 20th place mark.
Fresh off her heptathlon win at yesterday's Princeton Invite, Wardle came out on Saturday and took runner-up in the javelin (44.39) and long jump (5.70m), crushing her previous PRs in both events. Kylie DeMaria also set a personal best javelin of 32.45m while taking 22nd place overall.
Junior Courtney Wu finished 10th overall, second on the team to Wright's record triple jump, with a 10.65 meter score, in an event that had 44 finishers.
Avery and junior Brittany Le Jouan both landed on the podium in the long jump, where Avery came within two centimeters of her own school record, winning the leap at 1.77 meters. Le Jouan captured third place at 1.67 meters and Cassidy finished in the top 50 percent in 18th place overall (1.52m).
Freshman Kaitlyn Toman finished in a three-way tie for 11th place in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.35 meters.
On the track, sophomore Liyala Dickens (25.84) and junior Leah Ferguson (PR-25.93) placed 12th and 13th respectively in the 200m dash. Sophomore Hanna Brosky and junior Kaitlyn Ruffing paced the team in the 400m dash with Brosky leading way in seventh place (PR-58.62) and Ruffing following in 23rd (1:00.53).
