Henderson Earns Win as Lehigh Wraps Up Weekend at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Lehigh women's track and field team wrapped up a busy weekend on Sunday with the second day of the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University. Freshman Maura Henderson captured the first outdoor victory of her career on Saturday in the unseeded 1500 meter run.
Making her collegiate debut in the event, Henderson broke the tape in 4:35.59, besting the field of 76 finishers. She was joined by fellow teammate Stephanie Hayes in the top five, as Hayes crossed the line fifth in 4:40.96.
Laura Barnes led the way for Lehigh in the 1500m run Invite, finishing in 30th place overall in 4:37.16. Hannah Leskow (4:42.13), Brenna Clark (4:47.47) and Marissa Karl (4:49.19) also competed for Lehigh.
In the 3,000 steeplechase, Stacie Nadel took 14th place out of 41 (11:13.57), ahead of teammate Shannon Wright who raced her way to a 25th place finish (11:31.26). Senior Arielle Weiner represented Lehigh in the 10K with a 22nd place finish overall (37:58.73).
In the field, Melody Walthers led the team in 13th place of the javelin throw (39.70m), followed by Meghan Reilly (17th/38.28m) and Arianna Vukmanic (20th/36.31).
Lastly on Saturday, sophomore Amanda Youngblood powered Lehigh in ninth place in the discus throw (42.47m), while Nia Baker took 18th place (37.39m). The duo also competed on Sunday in the shot put, where Baker led the charge in 13th place, four placed ahead of Youngblood (12.24m).
Baker then took 15th place in the hammer (44.25m), the same event she won at the Greyhound Invite on Saturday. Youngblood took 24th place (41.63) with teammate Paige Grossman settling in between the two in 22nd (42.54m).
Also on Sunday, Katie Hatler, one of several competing in their second different meet in as many days, turned out a 12th place finish (15.05m) in the 100m hurdles, along with Noreen Byrne in 38th place (16.02m). Byrne also competed in the 400m hurdles, where she finished in 16th place out of 45 runners.
Rachel Okun set a PR in the 400 meter dash (1:00.51), finishing in 32nd place. Hanna Brosky set a PR with her 22nd place tally in the 800 meter run (2:14.64), placing just ahead of teammates Ann O'Connell (28th/2:17.38) and Stephanie Hayes (30th/2:17.71).
Lehigh will return to competition next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton.
