Lehigh welcomes Iona for Saturday afternoon matchup

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off two straight home victories, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team will look to continue its momentum when the Mountain Hawks host Iona on Saturday at 3 p.m. Most recently, Lehigh earned an impressive 12-3 win over Mount St. Mary's.
After dropping their season opener to No. 6 Penn State on Feb. 12, the Mountain Hawks took down Yale 9-7 then Mount St. Mary's by the 12-3 final as junior Allison LaBeau and sophomore Haley Wentzel combined for nine of Lehigh's 12 goals. Wentzel's four goals and five points shattered her previous career high while LaBeau's five goals (and one assist) came one season after scoring a career-high six goals against Mount St. Mary's. For the season, LaBeau now leads the team in goals (9) and assists (4). Wentzel is tied for second on the team with six points, owning five goals and one assist. Junior Lauren Beausoleil also has six points (three goals, three assists).
On the defensive side, junior Julianne D'Orazio has helped anchor the unit with seven groundballs and seven caused turnovers through the first three games. In addition, junior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt has posted a .511 save percentage in the cage for the Mountain Hawks, surrendering just three goals while making seven saves last Saturday vs. Mount St. Mary's.
Iona is coming off a 13-8 loss to fellow Patriot League opponent and Lehigh rival Lafayette. Prior to their matchup against the Leopards in Easton, the Gaels fell to Brown 13-11 but took down Wagner and Sacred Heart by finals of 17-12 and 13-10, respectively. The Gaels are a perfect 2-0 at home this season, but 0-2 on the road. Senior Mary Kate McCormick and junior Erin Pugh have combined for 19 goals and 24 assists through four games. McCormick has 22 points on the season (three goals, 19 assists) while Pugh owns 21 (16 goals, five assists). Thea Leitman has seen the majority of time in goal, owning a 12.63 goals against average and .400 save percentage.
Lehigh leads the all-time series, 1-0, beating the Gaels 14-9 in 2011. Lauren Dykstra led the way with seven goals and eight points.
After Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will travel to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty next Saturday (Mar. 12). Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. Lehigh then plays at Davidson on Tuesday, Mar. 15.
