Lehigh begins spring break road trip at Liberty Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following four straight home games to begin the season, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team hits the road for two games in four days beginning Saturday at Liberty. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m. Following a season-opening loss to No. 6 Penn State, the Mountain Hawks have bounced back with a vengeance, winning the next three over Yale (9-7), Mount St. Mary's (12-3) and Iona (14-11).
Last time out against Iona, Lehigh opened a 12-6 lead following a high-scoring first half. The score was tied at four before the game was nine minutes old, but the Mountain Hawks used a three-goal run to take a 7-4 lead and wouldn't trail the rest of the way. Junior Allison LaBeau led Lehigh with a career-high eight points behind four goals and a career-high four assists. She had a hand in each of Lehigh's final six goals on the afternoon, tallying three goals and three assists in that span. She also eclipsed 100 career points in the victory and was recognized with Patriot League Attacker of the Week honors on Monday.
Freshman Courtney Henig also scored three goals for her second-career hat trick while senior Kendall Garden had three goals and sophomore Haley Wentzel tallied three points (two goals, one assist). Sophomore Kayleen Kelly led the defense with a career-high tying three caused turnovers while junior Julianne D'Orazio caused two.
The Mountain Hawks stand among the national leaders in several categories. Lehigh is eighth in the country (and first in the Patriot League) in fewest turnovers with just 10.75 per contest. LaBeau is sixth nationally in points per game (5.25) and free position goals per contest (1.25). D'Orazio is 16th nationally, and first in the league, in caused turnovers per game (2.25).
Liberty is 1-5 so far this season with its one win coming over VCU by a 19-9 final. Kayla Foster and Callie Francis lead the team in points with 14, each tallying seven goals and seven assists. Kallie Britton leads the Flames in goals with 11 while Victoria Tickle has tallied a team-leading 20 groundballs. Colleen Ekert leads the way in draw controls (9) and caused turnovers (15). Katherine Widrick has seen the majority of time in goal, owning a 14.49 goals against average and .450 save percentage.
Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Liberty.
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks return to action at Davidson next Tuesday to face the Wildcats. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m.
