
Lehigh faces Fairleigh Dickinson in four games this weekend, makes home debut Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team is set to take on Fairleigh Dickinson in a four-game series this weekend. A Saturday doubleheader will be played at FDU before Lehigh makes its home debut at Legacy Park Sunday when the Knights travel to Bethlehem for the final two games of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. both days and free video of Sunday's games will be available on the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks are 3-4 on the young season and will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak. Lehigh opened the season with a three-game sweep of Norfolk State before the Mountain Hawks dropped three at Marshall last weekend. Lehigh came out on the short end of a back-and-forth midweek battle at Villanova Wednesday, 8-6, in its most recent action.
Five Mountain Hawks are hitting above .300 this season, led by junior Patrick Donnelly's .400 batting average and team-best six RBI. Juniors Connor Donovan (.391), David Young (.367) and Jacen Nalesnik (.345) follow, while senior Mike Garzillo has hit .310, scored a team-high nine runs and knocked five extra-base hits. Young is one of just 16 qualifying players in Division I to have not struck out yet this season. Lehigh's .983 fielding percentage leads the Patriot League and ranks 15th in the nation.
Seniors Kevin Long and Kevin Boswick and junior Matt Kozemchak have started all of Lehigh's weekend games so far this season. Long holds team-best marks in ERA (1.80), strikeouts (9) and innings thrown (10.0). A trio of sophomore relief pitchers, Sam Ashey, Peter Moore and Mark Washington, have earned Lehigh's wins on the mound.
Fairleigh Dickinson carries a 2-6 record into this weekend's action. The Knights earned a 7-5 win in the finale of a three-game season-opening series against UMES before FDU was swept by Longwood. The Knights picked up a 7-6 midweek victory at Lafayette Tuesday before falling 16-1 to St. John's Wednesday in the team's most recent action.
Ryan Brennan (.345) and Bobby Romano (.333) lead the Knights offensively and both have scored a team-best five runs. Romano, Shane Siebler and Dylan Sprague have recorded four RBI apiece, while Romano also leads the team with two home runs. The Knights are hitting .220 as a team compared to their opponents' average of .293.
Logan Frati, Joe Flack, Corey Zeller and Chris Kachmer have all made weekend starts on the mound for the Knights. Frati holds a stingy 0.82 ERA in 11.0 innings thrown, while Flack and Kachmer have both fanned a team-best 10 batters. Relief pitchers Tim Quinn and Danny Demetrops have earned FDU's wins.
The Knights earned a pair of one-run victories (2-1 and 4-3) over the Mountain Hawks in last season's meetings on March 22 in Teaneck, N.J. FDU holds a 7-4 all-time advantage over Lehigh.
Following this weekend's series, Lehigh will head to Winter Haven, Florida for Spring Break where the Mountain Hawks will play six games in five days at the RussMatt Invitational.
