Mountain Hawks cruise to 7-0 victory over Mount St. Mary’s

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team claimed a dominant 7-0 sweep of visiting Mount St. Mary's Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks won every doubles and singles match to improve their season record to 2-3, while the Mountaineers fall to 0-3 on the season.
"Felt great to get back to our winning ways," said head coach Wouter Hendrix. "We are slowly starting to get healthy and our doubles is improving. On Wednesday we face one of our biggest tests of the season against an improved Villanova squad. We will be ready and excited to take on this challenge."
Sophomore Christina Auyeung and junior Jamie Campisi kicked off doubles play with a 6-1 win at the top flight, before sophomores Kirstin Godau and Abby Duddy earned a 6-3 win at the third flight to secure the doubles points for Lehigh. Junior Cassidy Cruz and sophomore Briana Maravich followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles to complete the sweep.
Campisi opened singles action with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Erin Benefiel at the fourth flight. Auyeung followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kelly Smith at the top flight before Cruz clinched the match at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Brittany Poje.
Maravich earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Sruthi Kamprath at No. 3 singles. Duddy picked up a strong 6-1, 6-2 win at the fifth flight before Godau secured the 7-0 sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Mountain Hawks return to action Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match against Villanova inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
