BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The doubles point proved to be the difference as the Lehigh women's tennis team fell 4-3 to visiting Villanova Wednesday evening inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Both teams claimed three singles matches, with Lehigh winning at the top two flights and the sixth flight, but the Wildcats won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point en route to the 4-3 win. Lehigh falls to 2-4 this season with the loss, while Villanova improves to 2-2.

Sophomores Christina Auyeung and Kirstin Godau, along with freshman Grace Lin, earned Lehigh's points with singles victories.

"This is another setback for us," said head coach Wouter Hendrix. "It hasn't been an easy road so far. We need to stick together and work through this.

"Our level of play was better than it was earlier this season, but we still have a long way to go," continued Hendrix. "I am 100 percent convinced our team has the mental fortitude to fight through the adversity."

Villanova claimed the doubles point with wins at the bottom two flights to secure a 1-0 lead in the match. Lehigh's top team of Auyeung and junior Jamie Campisi did manage a 7-5 win over Tori Smyth and Lindsey Evans.

The Wildcats extended their lead when Samantha Schafer beat sophomore Cassidy Cruz in straight sets at No. 2 before Auyeung put Lehigh on the board with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Smyth at the top flight. Evans won a three-set match over sophomore
Briana Maravich to get Villanova to three points before Lin won a three-setter of her own, taking down Victoria Martinez 6-3, 4-6, 6-3  at No. 2

Paulina Bajet captured the clinching point for Villanova with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Campisi at No. 5 before Godau won a ten point super tiebreak after she and Aphrah Brokaw split the first sets at No. 6.

The Mountain Hawks will look to get back on track when they host Kutztown Sunday at 11 a.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
